Windows 11 New Media Player

Hello!

I used Groove Music.

Today, I received the new Media Player which replaced Groove Music.

It correctly found my music and videos as I have included them in the Libraries.

Unfortunately, it is buggy.

For instance, when I click on Artists, it says that it could not find any content.

Also, it stucks when I click on an artist or album

Do you have similar issues?

Should I just wait a little bit, maybe they are going to provide updates and fixes?

I have tried resetting the app 2 times, but still the same problems.

EDIT [19.5.2022]: There was some improvements in my experience with Media Player.

Some day ago, the Media Player started anew. FIrst, it scanned again from scratch my Music library.

For 5-10 minutes, it used a lot of CPU and RAM. Then when it was done, I could see the Artists and it did not say that it couldnt find any music.

But still it is not completely stable. Very often, when I click on an Album or Artist, it freezes or crashes.

So, still I am anxiously waiting if it will get stable in the future.

But for now, I am happy that I can listen to music again.

DId this update also happen to you?

EDIT [11.9.2022]: Overall, my experience with Media Player has improved a lot.

Now, I can play all my music.

There are now 3 issues remaining as I can see them at least:

  1. Often, when I click to play an album, it freezes. I have to close and restart the app, and then I can play the same album. The same album appears when I click on the Home link.
  2. I also noticed this error: The run times of albums and others, are wrong! They do not show the actual value as I inspected them.
  3. Unfortunately, and this has not been addresses to me so far, I do not have Artists art. Wherever there is an artist, it just shows nothing. In Groove Music, I used to have those and they were beautiful.

    Thanks for the info. I wonder if it is when it forcefully adds onedrive/music. I might stic a music item in there and see if it stops the failure. So sad. Makes you wonder what kind of testing goes on? Or do they just use customers to test. And to call it Media Player again, do they even think?

    I wondered the same. It keeps adding my OneDrive music folder into the MP folders list, despite me taking it out repeatedly (i don’t store any music in OneDrive).

    If I take my local music folder out of the folder list in MP it catalogs the 3 artist folders I put in OneDrive. That works fine.

    Then I add back in my local music folder path with over 3,000 artist subfolders and BANG!

    It crashes and says We can’t find any music. Strange, though, that the track view and album vews both still list content.Its only the Artist view that seems broken.

    I even tried deselecting the option to not get missing Artist information from the Internet, to see if that helped. All it did was not display most arist icons as the actual artist. The Artist view itsel still broke after a few minutes.

    Yet I know the MP database mentioned in spyders post is there and populated, because I’ve looked at the content in SQLite.

    Thats in :

    C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState

    The actaul DB is MediaPlayer.db. Mine is about 12Mb

    All tracks, album and artist tables are populated ok.

    I think the error is happening in MP, (although a lot of the file reads are actually performed by another process called RuntimeBroker.exe, which I think is used by MP (and other programs) to do the actual file access.

    Anyway, it’s broken.

    Are there no Microsoft Agents/mvps that check these forum posts?

    Spyderz said the MS help desk had no idea of the problem/cause when he contacted them.

    Poor showing by Microsoft when you consider they 'forced' the change from Groove Music to the new Media Player.

    If you're going to do that, at least test it properly first!

    Same problem today after a useless update. New Notepad and terrible Media Player - I hated Groove and this is no better. Waited a while for it to scan for music in my library directory which is about 120Gb and on a different internal HD and every time I select Artists, it shows the same "We couldn't find any music" message. Repaired and Reset the app without long lasting success.

    This, like Groove focusses on pretty images and doesn't have better on screen info, no ripping of owned CDs, no file management, manual track/album info/image updating, or even the ability to delete a song, album or artist without having to click properties/file location to revert to File Explorer. An all in one solution? I'm sticking with WMP.

    It only adds the music in my top level folder, but not subfolders.

    This is a PIECE OF ****. Groove at least worked; the old media player was better.

    THIS IS USELESS.

    Going to look for something that works on Linux under WSL, and I look forward to the day I don't have to deal with professional word documents and other stuff I need windows for and can move to Linux 100%
