Hello!

I used Groove Music.

Today, I received the new Media Player which replaced Groove Music.

It correctly found my music and videos as I have included them in the Libraries.

Unfortunately, it is buggy.

For instance, when I click on Artists, it says that it could not find any content.

Also, it stucks when I click on an artist or album

Do you have similar issues?

Should I just wait a little bit, maybe they are going to provide updates and fixes?

I have tried resetting the app 2 times, but still the same problems.

EDIT [19.5.2022]: There was some improvements in my experience with Media Player.

Some day ago, the Media Player started anew. FIrst, it scanned again from scratch my Music library.

For 5-10 minutes, it used a lot of CPU and RAM. Then when it was done, I could see the Artists and it did not say that it couldnt find any music.

But still it is not completely stable. Very often, when I click on an Album or Artist, it freezes or crashes.

So, still I am anxiously waiting if it will get stable in the future.

But for now, I am happy that I can listen to music again.

DId this update also happen to you?

EDIT [11.9.2022]: Overall, my experience with Media Player has improved a lot.

Now, I can play all my music.

There are now 3 issues remaining as I can see them at least:

  1. Often, when I click to play an album, it freezes. I have to close and restart the app, and then I can play the same album. The same album appears when I click on the Home link.
  2. I also noticed this error: The run times of albums and others, are wrong! They do not show the actual value as I inspected them.
  3. Unfortunately, and this has not been addresses to me so far, I do not have Artists art. Wherever there is an artist, it just shows nothing. In Groove Music, I used to have those and they were beautiful.

    Ooops. Spoke too soon. It worked for about half an hour then reverted to crashing at everything. Now that aught to tell you something, and if Microsoft is monitoring these discussions (they should be), then they should take note. This seems to be some kind of database corruption issue. It installs and everything works. Then dies. Why this wasn't fixed months ago is the issue. Adobe runs into stuff like this once in a while, but it's usually fixed in about a month with the next update.

    I can confirm this. Uninstalled and then reinstalled through the Microsoft Store. It finally shows a list of artists, shows the album, lets you edit info, etc., and at least so far hasn't crashed. Progress!

    It's about time.

    And an update...

    Launched again with 'Get missing album art ON' and it took 30-56% !!!!! of my CPU.

    I HAD thought it was getting better :(

    Well, I had the same problems you and others posted.

    Then I uninstalled it again, and it got reinstalled (cos I didn't stop other updates from MS).

    Now it actually works!.

    It builds the Song, Album and Artist views OK, and doesn't seem to freeze as it did before.

    I note that it stll does cause quite a hit on my CPU (Ryzen 5600G, 16Gb RAM) EVERY time I launch it after PC starts.

    It isn't quite as bad as before, where it could take anything from 10-45% of the CPU for a couple of minutes after launching.

    Now it 'only' takes up to 20%.

    It doesn't seem to do this for quite as long either.

    But watching procmon scan while launching, I can see it do a full library scan.

    I also tried turning off the 'look up miussing album art.....' option.

    This didn't seem to make a great deal of difference, but did result in ALL my artist icons going blank!. Whats that about. Don't tell me it gets that information anew every time it starts. Download it once and cache it, for pete's sake. Give me an option to look for new missing artwork if I add new content.

    As I say, I have about 18,500 tracks, 160+Gb library.

    So, still a work in progress, I'd say. Could do better, but its usable. Still think I prefer Media Monkey, though. Very slick.

    Hm... afterthought...

    Just tried launching with 'Get missing album art' turned off, and the CPU hit suddenly bounced between 2-52% load!!! (sigh)
