What is going on here? There is no information anywhere so it obviously isnt a problem for everyone.
Most of my files stored on Dropbox now have a small brown file box icon on the lower left corner of the main icon for all MS Office files. They open perfectly well on the phone and a laptop running Windows 10 but not on my laptop running Windows 11.
I get an error message saying the program cant open it because the file is unsupported or may be corrupt.
Why the **** do they release an OS that doesn't work with their own programs??

I have had this issue many times. Sometimes I am able to undo whatever instigated it by hitting Ctrl + Z on my desktop. But that didn't always work. After a while I figured out that you have to right click on the file or folder, go to "Properties". Then on the "General" tab, click "Advanced". When the advanced settings window pops up, you will need to uncheck the box marked "Folder/File is ready for archiving".
That should do the trick. It has worked for me.

I have this problem too and can't find a solution.
I just had this problem and I did this (below) and it worked.
Go to into "Settings"
System > Storage > Storage Sense
Turn on "Automatic User content cleanup"
Down to "One Drive- Personal"
Select "Never"
Click "Run Storage Sense now"
You can override that (whether it is on or off) by right clicking on a folder or file and clicking on Always keep on this device. The checkmark means it is set to always keep on this device. If your drive is running out of space, use this to keep files you use frequently on the computer and files you need to keep but never access can be online only.

I had a similar issue and couldn't open the files. I signed into my OneDrive app on the laptop and ensured my files were syncing and the issue went away. (As Diane mentioned about the sync settings). I suspect this also happens if you change/create profiles on your computer. Depending on how the profile is set up (for instance if it's set up as a local account) then it will not have a Microsoft account affiliated with it so you have to sync OneDrive manually to access any files shared across accounts. Hope this helps.
