Find network access credentials windows 10 or 11

I've been running my local (wired) network with password protected sharing turned off.

To reduce the risk of infection I've now turned it on on all the pc's.

The result is that I am now unable to access any of the machines on the network (running windows 10 or 11)

I need to input the username and password

However using whoami locally to get the username, and entering the pin as the password I get

"the username or password is incorrect"

trying to access another machine I get "\XXXXX is not accessible. ... etc."

Is there a simple way I can turn on machine A and determine what credentials are required to access it from another PC via the network?

    Late addition, but was running into same problem. I had to ID my original user profile name as was in C: Users and use the last local password that I set up prior to moving to the pin. Beat my head against a wall for a few hours on this, but alas, victory.

    john I have tried everything that I have read about from microsotf community. Nothing has worked so far. There has be an answer that works.....

    I've been doing battle with this issue for years... I got back to it when I moved a work computer home and tried to set up network shares. Both computers were showing in Windows Explorer "Network," but then one or both disappeared when I updated Windows10. All the "easy" networking settings are correct, and I enabled services as recommended... One computer was showing up, but the other was not... not even to itself...

    I followed one recommendation to turn on network discovery via the command line, and it actually turned off network discovery... not sure why. I reset network, restarted computer, and the missing Computer under "Network" was now showing... which gets me to the credential issue.

    I still haven't solved this when clicking Image in the Network explorer

    I get .Image

    Same credential error when I enter \T3600 in the address line.

    HOWEVER!!!!

    When I enter the entire path to the folder share \T3600\Photos, it opens without asking for credentials!!!

    UPDATE: Unfortunately, this quit working... I had tried the same approach from T3600 the other computer (it didn't work), and when I came back I could not access the Photos folder on T3600. Strange behavior!

    UPDATE2: Now it's working again... from both computers... don't know why... Strange thing - when using the direct path method, the folder is VERY slow to open.

    I've followed most or all of the advice here and not yet gotten it working. This is a travesty -- two Win-11 PCs on the same LAN, wanting to share files? Who would have imagined such a thing?!

    That Microsoft has not put out some basic HOW-TO article on this is a disgrace. Better yet, make it obvious.
