Find network access credentials windows 10 or 11

I've been running my local (wired) network with password protected sharing turned off.

To reduce the risk of infection I've now turned it on on all the pc's.

The result is that I am now unable to access any of the machines on the network (running windows 10 or 11)

I need to input the username and password

However using whoami locally to get the username, and entering the pin as the password I get

"the username or password is incorrect"

trying to access another machine I get "\XXXXX is not accessible. ... etc."

Is there a simple way I can turn on machine A and determine what credentials are required to access it from another PC via the network?

Honestly, I tried all of that, and much more. So I decided to buy a NAS box and put some very large drives in them. Now all my machines can see/share those drives without issue, and they can all use the same drive letter. I'm so much happier now that I essentially took Windows sharing out of the equation. Maybe someday they'll fix it, but I'm already way past that.

That's interesting Jeff, Sounds like a good solution.

    What NAS did you buy?

Can't copy the link from the Amazon app. But it's the Asustor Drivestor AS1102T. It's a 2 bay external enclosure, connects via ethernet. There are better ones available (better cpu and speed) , so you might want to look into those as well. Hope that helps.

Unsatisfactory anwer. There is no "Credentials" icon. There is a "Manage your credentials Icon" but I don't see how to get my network password.

I wish it was as easy to share files between my own computers, as it is for me to unwillingly share them with Microsoft!
