Find network access credentials windows 10 or 11

I've been running my local (wired) network with password protected sharing turned off.

To reduce the risk of infection I've now turned it on on all the pc's.

The result is that I am now unable to access any of the machines on the network (running windows 10 or 11)

I need to input the username and password

However using whoami locally to get the username, and entering the pin as the password I get

"the username or password is incorrect"

trying to access another machine I get "\XXXXX is not accessible. ... etc."

Is there a simple way I can turn on machine A and determine what credentials are required to access it from another PC via the network?

    Oh I apologize. And yes, it is the username and password that you use to connect to your router. It has nothing g to do with our Microsoft account, go figure right! Lol I don't know what made me try that but it worked and I am so happy it did.

    However you connect you, router for your wifi (internet) connection to your computer/laptop/phone is the information it wants. Unless you are on a public computer with no username/ID with password protection you should be able to input the same information as you would to connect to your router.

    Hence: network credentials= network is how you connect to the internet (router) credentials is username/password for that router. I hope this helps.

    This does not work for trying to connect a Windows 11 laptop to a Windows 11 PC.

    It is beyond me why Microsoft cannot develop a simple straight forward system.

    I cannot get a clear answer about which credentials to use or even what "credentials" are.

    I had the same problem connecting and try several passwords and noting worked. Finally, I used the username that appears in your laptop and same password used to login to laptop (which you are trying to log in from your pc). Under accounts lookup for your local account user ID.
