Find network access credentials windows 10 or 11

I've been running my local (wired) network with password protected sharing turned off.

To reduce the risk of infection I've now turned it on on all the pc's.

The result is that I am now unable to access any of the machines on the network (running windows 10 or 11)

I need to input the username and password

However using whoami locally to get the username, and entering the pin as the password I get

"the username or password is incorrect"

trying to access another machine I get "\XXXXX is not accessible. ... etc."

Is there a simple way I can turn on machine A and determine what credentials are required to access it from another PC via the network?

    I seen your threads today and not sure if everyone has figured this is. I also have pulled my hair out. Well I found the answer and so happy.

    Put in your username and password for your internet connection.

    That got me in.

    I'm confused by your suggestion that the user name and password for your internet connection works.

    I have a user name and password for my router - is that what you meant?

    If so, I don't see how that's relevant.

    Doesn't make sense. I don't have a username for my internet connection. I have a password/key to connect to the router, but there is no "internet connection" username and password.

    I have to echo someone elses frustration above about Windows and Macs. Why can't this stuff just work??
