Find network access credentials windows 10 or 11

I've been running my local (wired) network with password protected sharing turned off.

To reduce the risk of infection I've now turned it on on all the pc's.

The result is that I am now unable to access any of the machines on the network (running windows 10 or 11)

I need to input the username and password

However using whoami locally to get the username, and entering the pin as the password I get

"the username or password is incorrect"

trying to access another machine I get "\XXXXX is not accessible. ... etc."

Is there a simple way I can turn on machine A and determine what credentials are required to access it from another PC via the network?

hey after a bit of messing around i found out how to do it.

go to the credential manager and then to the windows credential section. under the tab windows credentials hit add new credential. for the network addess go to thew properties of the folder you want to share then go to the sharing tab and copy the network path and past that in the address section. then for the password and username you can enter whatever you want. i like to use admin for the user name and then whatever password. click save and it should work

EDIT: incase it wasnt clear you are adding the credentials in the PC that has the drive or file you want to share. then using them on the PC you want to acces the file from.

hope that helps even though this post was a year ago.

    thanks

    andrew.

Thank you for the phone number tip - very strange, but thankful to have found something that works!

Winn 11 lost almost everything and had a severe problem with " This website is unreachable. I reset t my Internet settings from the start menue and everything came back and seems to be working well. Just as before with all my program icons and sign-on! So far so good. Now even Microsoft Edge is set the same. My screen looks just as it did in Win 10.

I had the same problem connecting and try several passwords and noting worked. Finally, I used the username that appears in your laptop and same password used to login to laptop (which you are trying to log in from your pc). Under accounts lookup for your local account user ID.

This does not work for trying to connect a Windows 11 laptop to a Windows 11 PC.

It is beyond me why Microsoft cannot develop a simple straight forward system.

I cannot get a clear answer about which credentials to use or even what "credentials" are.
