BSOD after trying to install a game from the Xbox application

Hi there,

I made a quick search and I can tell other people around the world (I'm French) are having the same problem.

Happened first when I tried installing the Guardians of the galaxy game from the Gamepass section.

Precision : My games are stored on an internal SSD.

Had a first BSOD with the error code "Thread system exception not handled"

Went into safe boot trying to investigate this. Whocrashed showed it was related to the system driver "ftlmgr.exe"

I then uninstalled my anti-virus, as I read it was often related to this and rebooted.

BSOD again.

Went to safe boot again, running a sfc scannow and dsim => Got no effect.

So after an evening of self-infliged hairpulling, I dropped my PC at a professional's store.

The guy then told me my system SSD (not the one containing my games) was unstable, cloned the disk and installed a new one with a fresh Windows installation.

I happily brought my PC back home, trying to get my games detected by the Xbox App (without success BTW) and the same BSOD error code was back.

I went in safe boot again, with my internet connection off and it didn't crash before I reactivated it.

Looks like something's running globally because as I said, I found many recent threads about this exact problem

Does someone have any intel about it and/or a fix ?

    Uninstalled Avira followed by a reboot and, surprisingly, so far so good. I am now updating some drivers

    I've been able to log in to the Microsoft Store as well as the Xbox app and even reinstall Halo Infinite (I miss this big boi so much).

    I wonder if I should install the Windows 21H2 update. What do you think ?

    Anyway, I'll try playing during the day, hoping I'm now out of the woods.

    I'll try and keep you posted.

    Ok, so, I've been able to play Halo Infinite normally but now I'm encountering the error 0x8007001f when trying to install Guardians of the Galaxy.

    I've tried the fix that usually works but I saw no disk appearing in the device manager nor the disk management console.

    I then installed the 21H2 update and rebooted but same error.

    Cancelling the installation and retrying it showed no improvement.

    Any clue on this one ?

    Can you open the Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates

    Anything showing up related to gaming?

    The Microsoft store won't open and there's an exclamation mark on its Start Menu tile.

    I tried repairing, restoring, reinstalling it. Nothing worked and I haven't been able to execute a PowerShell command that is known to fix this kind of problem because the process Start Menu Experience was running.
