BSOD after trying to install a game from the Xbox application

Hi there,

I made a quick search and I can tell other people around the world (I'm French) are having the same problem.

Happened first when I tried installing the Guardians of the galaxy game from the Gamepass section.

Precision : My games are stored on an internal SSD.

Had a first BSOD with the error code "Thread system exception not handled"

Went into safe boot trying to investigate this. Whocrashed showed it was related to the system driver "ftlmgr.exe"

I then uninstalled my anti-virus, as I read it was often related to this and rebooted.

BSOD again.

Went to safe boot again, running a sfc scannow and dsim => Got no effect.

So after an evening of self-infliged hairpulling, I dropped my PC at a professional's store.

The guy then told me my system SSD (not the one containing my games) was unstable, cloned the disk and installed a new one with a fresh Windows installation.

I happily brought my PC back home, trying to get my games detected by the Xbox App (without success BTW) and the same BSOD error code was back.

I went in safe boot again, with my internet connection off and it didn't crash before I reactivated it.

Looks like something's running globally because as I said, I found many recent threads about this exact problem

Does someone have any intel about it and/or a fix ?

Can you repair/reset the App(s) via "Apps and Features" ?

Do Forza Horizon 5" and/or "Forza Horizon 5 Standard Edition" show up here:

Right-click the Start button > Apps and Features

I repaired the Xbox app : Settings > Apps > Xbox > Advanced options > Repair

What steps did you follow to "repair" the app?

Did you "repair" both "Forza Horizon 5" and "Forza Horizon 5 Standard Edition"?

Magic happened : I opened the Microsoft Store after boot up, the update was no longer there. Guess it finally managed to install.

Could I abuse of your kindness and ask you for help about games installation. I'm still getting the 0x8007001f error.

Noticed an element from the Guardians of the galaxy bundle is still appearing in my install queue but I can't get rid of it. Tried repairing and resetting the Xbox App, uninstalling/reinstalling the Gaming Services, without success.

Also, a download will appear in double but only one will show the error.

That does look OK.

However something is not right so I might suggest to try a "repair install" of Windows 10 - as a general precaution back up any critical files beforehand:

A repair should set system files/registry back to default.
