Hi,
I am struggling with a new issue in File Explorer. I have recently updated to Windows 11, but I think this issue has started since this version update.
When I try to rename a file or folder in Windows file explorer, I am unable to place my cursor at a particular point in the filename - eg to insert some letters or numbers.
Instead, wherever I place my cursor, within a second, the whole file name has been selected, which means I start typing a new filename from scratch. This is different to how it has previously behaved, and very annoying.
A related issue - when I am renaming a file saving a file from within a program, a slightly different issue occurs. I put my cursor at the end of a filename, eg,to add a new version number to the filename, but the cursor jumps to the left - to the start of the filename.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Same problem here. My "workaround" is enter rename mode, click somewhere, wait a moment, watch the whole filename get selected, then finish my rename. Huge hassle. I have tested multiple times between folders in and out of OneDrive's purview and this only happens to me with OneDrive.
Agree - I am having this issue with files in the Sharepoint (Synced to Windows explorer) as well. Really annoying. The only workaround I have found is to right click the file name, select Properties and amend the name there. Please FIX IT Microsoft!

This issue is still ongoing. It occurs in the standard Windows Save As dialog (and other places).
My repro:
I'm saving a bunch of similar docs
Click Save As
Save doc with name Foobar 1
Click Save As
Click the name of first file you just saved to copy the name into the filename box (input box is now "Foobar 1"
Select "1" with mouse (in order to change it to "2")
!!! Error: Cursor jumps to the far left of the edit box before the "F"
Expect: "1" to stay selected
Reselecting "1" works fine.
It *may* have something to do with OneDrive syncing files at the same time. I wonder if OneDrive syncing "Foobar 1" and changing the name causes the dialog to refresh and the edit box to get reset somehow.
I am having the same problem - it's taking me a huge amount of time to rename files and it's incredibly frustrating. I repeatedly try to click in the spot I want to type but over and over again it selects all the text in the filename - I try to quickly hit the space bar or a random character so that it will stop selecting all the text and then I lose the entire name and all I have is that 1 character and I have to start from scratch again. This is ridiculous Microsoft! PLEASE FIX THIS!!
Having the same issue. Please fix this! Your lack of concern is causing me constant grief, over and over and over again.
The program already begins the rename with the entire string selected. The program should not assume I want to change the entire file name AFTER I've clicked in the middle of the text string. More often than not, I want to differentiate the file name by only a few characters. This second assumption is redundant and counter intuitive. It also behaves differently than standard windows practices.
Windows SOP trained me to work this way and now is making for a clunky work experience.
