KB5005033 August 2021 cumulative update

Since installing KB5005033 on Friday, the 13th of August (oh, hell, THAT'S my problem - why did I ever install anything from Microsoft on Friday the 13th???), I have periodically had a black screen appear. That's it - no blue screen of death, just a hung machine that I have to hard reboot by holding the power button down until it powers off, and then turning it on again. It's an HP Pavillion laptop x360, with 8 Gb ram:

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Seems that after this update the following 2 issues are happening:

1. If I have all open applications minimized and I press the Windows Key for the start menu, the menu opens but is not focused, so I still have to click the menu to focus on it. My usual activity is to press the windows key, type the name of an application, and hit enter if it finds it to open it.
2. Taskbar crashing randomly when trying to shift to another application. Hard to judge exact steps to reproduce but has crashed several times over the last few days since update. It then refreshes the screen and the taskbar.

Not sure how to get support to notice this. Hoping this reply does!

I have a desktop and a laptop. Action Center wouldn't stay open on either machine after this update. On both machines, I did:

• Settings
• Update & Security
• View update history
• Uninstall updates

This lands you in the "Uninstall an update" detail. I selected the update then clicked "Uninstall". After the machines rebooted, the update no longer appeared in the "Uninstall an update" detail, but still appears in "View update history". This routine cured Action Center on my desktop, but not on my laptop.

Given some of the issues myself and others are reporting with the update, maybe it's a blessing that this update is not installing for you. However if you do want to install it, you can try downloading the standalone MSU package from the Microsoft Update Catalogue which was linked from the update description page.

For anyone thats having issues with alt tabbing to fullscreen/borderless windowed games or applications try this. Right click the taskbar --> News and interests --> Turn Off. Changing this setting disables the weather widget (it is only visible if your taskbar is on the bottom of the screen) but fixes the alt tab functionality (or at least it did for me).
