Task manager sorting is extremely slow when I switch from sorting by name to performance metrics or vice versa.
For example - I can sort by name and if after that I decide to sort by one of the performance metrics - it's going to take about 3 seconds to do so. After that - I can freely sort by any of the performance metrics and I will experience no lag, unless I try to sort by the name again. In which case I will see another lag, also about 3 seconds. And from this point the cycle repeats.
I have had this issue before - the only resolution I have found - was to reinstall the windows, but it's not a solution I find sustainable.
TLDR
Sorting by CPU takes 3 seconds, after that, sorting by name takes 3 seconds, if I try to sort by CPU again - I will get another lag of the similar duration.
What can be done about it?

Same here - 12-14 seconds. I even did a restore from a week ago and same problem.
I'm convince windows becomes self-destructing over time, then you have to jump through hurdles to try this and try that etc and waste lots of time. I just scrub the machine, sell it for parts and get a new one.
I usually dump machine after 5-6 years, because you know that 'bump' in the middle of the night is coming.
Same here on my last 3 PC. Both on Win 10 and Win 11. Now it's worse, it even can be 10-15 sec to sort.

Obviously, this is not a hardware problem guys, and it's been here more than 2 years now.
Same issue here. Happened in my previous windows. Got a new $4000 computer, was slow straight out of the box just like in Win10. My machine is absolute top of the line hardware. Everything is smooth as butter, but not the task manager. Opening, sorting, switching tabs, everything is slow as molasses.
To be fair, sorting for example takes like 3 seconds. But this is quite a lag still. It should not lag like this.
I don't have anything to add other than that I have had this issue for a long time on multiple computers both at work and at home, and seen it on friends' computers as well. Windows 10 and 11. This is not something that deteriorates over time, but it was there from day 1 on my work laptop (Dell Precision 3570)
