intel usb 3.1 extensible host controller not present in device manager

Hello Hello,

Hopefully one will be able to help me. I bought an external ssd (crucial x8) i have a laptop with a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 and when i check usb controllers in device manager i only have the 3.0 usb host. look at the screen cap please . The x8 promesses up to 1050mb/sec but since windows sees my 3.1 gen 2 type c usb as a 3.0 usb im only getting half the speed .. I d like to get full speed .. any genius in the room pls ive tried many options with no success.. (going in bios , reinstalling this and that, update drivers..) I just cant get the 3.1 controllers driver to load or else plss plsss help Thank you

    Hi John,

    It seems we have the exact same set of drivers, i still dont understand why windows uses usb 3.0 host instead of the usb 3.1 host... I did verify and my motherboard (Kabylake) has native support for usb 3.1 gen 2 ... but becausse windows wont load the 3.1 set .. im limited in speed for my external x8 ssd .. how much do you get for your x6 , i achieve around 460mb/sec read and right and i should get double ..

    Looking at the specs for my external Samsung T5 SSD, it says I can only get 540MBytes/s for a read. It supposedly is a 3.1 Gen2 device. Both 3.1 ports on my HP Z2 Mini are supposedly 3.1 Gen2. So I ran a test. I did a small Macrium Reflect backup to my T5. The maximum rate it showed as the backup ran was 1.7 Gbits/s or 221Megabytes/sec. I then ran a backup of that file to my NAS and got 13271 Megabytes/min which is about 221 Megabytes/sec. So I am getting about 50% of the max. Is there some sort of read/write test program you used?

    Hi john ,

    It seems you have the same issue ..

    Notice on the screen cap it says my crucial is connected to a usb 3.0 but it is connected on my usb 3.1 port ...you go there using control panel.

    I suspect yours is detected as usb 3.0 therefore using only 3.0 speeds

    Im also getting a lil less then half the speed i should get (x8 promises a speedy 1050 mb/sec)

    Im using this free app to check read and write...

    CrystalDiskMark – Crystal Dew World (crystalmark.info)

    CrystalDiskMark8 heres a screen cap of my results

    I suspect that the USB 3.0 designation on the "Other Devices" in Settings section is purely a generic piece of information. I ran the Crystal Disk Mark on the drive. I original downloaded the Info program and could out find out why I was not getting a speed test.  Here are my results. Pretty much what the manufacture said.

    For some reason I am having a problem copying a screen print into these posts. I don't know why. Here are the numbers:

    Seq#1: Read = 567.86, Write = 530.13

    Seq#2: Read = 436.91, Write = 419.52

    Rnd#1: Read = 246.93, Write = 175.87

    Rnd#2: Read = 18.72, Write = 63.24
