Hello Hello,
Hopefully one will be able to help me. I bought an external ssd (crucial x8) i have a laptop with a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 and when i check usb controllers in device manager i only have the 3.0 usb host. look at the screen cap please . The x8 promesses up to 1050mb/sec but since windows sees my 3.1 gen 2 type c usb as a 3.0 usb im only getting half the speed .. I d like to get full speed .. any genius in the room pls ive tried many options with no success.. (going in bios , reinstalling this and that, update drivers..) I just cant get the 3.1 controllers driver to load or else plss plsss help Thank you

2021-05-01T14:13:28+00:00 hi you cant paste images directly , you have to choose the image icon here in this writing window on top line, icon looks like a paysage , then you click upload then you choose the image representing screen cap and then insert .
Your numbers are good thanks to your usb 3.1 extensible host that is activated .. mine isnt i only have the 3.0 activated .
and only getting half the speed..

2021-05-01T14:31:21+00:00 OK Louis I will try again. However when I click on that "Insert Image" icon, nothing happens. Here is a screen print from Device Manager using the option to "View" > "Devices by connection". You will see my Samsung drive under the USB 3.1 controller. Of course if your Device Manager does not list the 3.1 controller, then it does not help.
Well I can't do the insert. This is ridiculous.

My system is usb 3.1 gen 2 compatible and i have a port for it but windows thinks its a 3.0 ..
i will hopefully find a way to activate it

2021-05-01T18:28:35+00:00 I installed an Asus Thunderbolt 3 card on my X99 motherboard. Asus said it was compatible, but Asrock says only USB 3.1 gen 1 and 2 will be recognized by the motherboard. I had to return the card. This whole thunderbolt 'thing' is not as great as people would like it to be. You are always at the mercy of the slowest component in your system. Try and call your Motherboard Manufacturer and ask them straight out , "Can this port be used as a USB 3.1 Gen 2?". When they post specs for these its always 'up to' a certain speed. They never say it will they say it can reach speeds of 10gpbs. Gen 2 USB 3.1 is always listed as 'up to 10gpbs. Some Gen 2 may go 'up to 20 Gpbs, but most only go up to 10 Gpbs. I have been looking at these lately. If what you are doing is not that critical that you need top speed all the time, I wouldn't worry about it. You are getting caught up in the "Speed Mire". There comes a point when you just have to get in the car and drive it and stop endlessly trying to make it better.
