intel usb 3.1 extensible host controller not present in device manager

Hello Hello,

Hopefully one will be able to help me. I bought an external ssd (crucial x8) i have a laptop with a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 and when i check usb controllers in device manager i only have the 3.0 usb host. look at the screen cap please . The x8 promesses up to 1050mb/sec but since windows sees my 3.1 gen 2 type c usb as a 3.0 usb im only getting half the speed .. I d like to get full speed .. any genius in the room pls ive tried many options with no success.. (going in bios , reinstalling this and that, update drivers..) I just cant get the 3.1 controllers driver to load or else plss plsss help Thank you

    heres what i have .. external drive like you but look the second line it says standard disk drive ??

    Any clue on this ?

    i also notice that your x6 is recognized as a scsi device isnt that odd . my x8 does that too

    Heres two screenshots 

    device manager 

    and ther other one shows that my external ssd is connected to a usb 3.0 but it is connected to a usb 3.1 windows dont detect it properly.

    Can you try to locate your usb 3.1 host controller drivers/files and send it maybe ??

      Are you sure that your external drive is being considered a "fixed drive". What does the standard Windows System Information tool show for your drives. Access it in the Start Menu by "Windows System" > "Windows Administrative Tools" > "System Information". Then go down to "Components" > "Storage" > "Disks". For my external drive it shows as "External hard disk media" while the internal drives show as "Fixed hard disk". There also should be the little external drive icon in the System Tray. If you click on that, see if your external drive shows up there.

    I have two systems with USB 3.1. I believe they are both Gen 2. One is a combination Thunderbolt3/USB-C port. The second has separate USB 3.1ports plus Thunderbolt3. I can see the Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller listed on both but there is no USB 3.1 Root Hub. Here is a screenshot of Device Manager for the second one.

    It also shows the one external drive I have connected to one of the 3.1 hubs.

    Why your 3.1 controller is not showing is strange. You might want to try something like HWInfo to see if the controller shows up there.
