Hopefully one will be able to help me. I bought an external ssd (crucial x8) i have a laptop with a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 and when i check usb controllers in device manager i only have the 3.0 usb host. look at the screen cap please . The x8 promesses up to 1050mb/sec but since windows sees my 3.1 gen 2 type c usb as a 3.0 usb im only getting half the speed .. I d like to get full speed .. any genius in the room pls ive tried many options with no success.. (going in bios , reinstalling this and that, update drivers..) I just cant get the 3.1 controllers driver to load or else plss plsss help Thank you

Yes the whole strory here is about my external ssd being plugged in the usb 3.1 type c port ...but device manager dont seem to load up the proper drivers even if my device is plugged in all i have in device manager is usb 3.0 extensible host controller and the usb hub that goes with it ,,no usb 3.1 controller or hub.
Windows recognizes my ssd as a standard hard drive ...

I tried the second method and i must admit there are some improvements in system responsivity, and my usb drivers are now dated of june 2020 instead of june 2006 (yeah they were that old) but i still dont have the usb 3.1 extensible host controller and the usb 3.1 hub in my device manager .

Microsoft uses the 6/21/2006 date for drivers for a lot of the generic devices. They are part of the OS. You can see an explanation here:

Some of the items in the Device Manager USB controllers section have the generic date while others have more recent dates.
Do you have something plugged into your USB 3.1 port? Sometimes items do not appear in Device Manager if nothing is plugged in. Did you use the "Show hidden devices" view in Device Manager to see if it might show up?

I just ran intel driver assistance tool and all my intel drivers are up to date ..
But i notice this in intel report for my external ssd ..notice at line that says device path it says its a physical drive and it uses the same bus as my system hdd..
My crucial x8 is an external ssd not a physical drive .. why windows sees it as a physical drive .. it seems its not using the proper drivers
Any clue on this ??
