Basically, people

If you tried everything and it didn't work, leave as it is for a month (pause/schedule the updates)

The succeeding updates usually get the problem fixed

Hello how are you?

Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

1-Restart the computer and continue pressing the F8 or Shift + F8 key; the advanced boot screen will open in front of you.

2- Now select "Choose an option" and choose the "Solve problems" option, then go to "Advanced options" and press the number corresponding to Safe mode.

3- After booting the system in safe mode, open the command prompt and run these commands

net stop wuauserv

4- Now you need to go to a mass distribution and delete your content. Go to the next path to find a mass distribution.

C: Windows SoftwareDistribution
Delete all files and subfolders in this folder.

Now restart your computer and the updates could not be completed. Undo changes, do not turn off the computer in Windows 10 will be fixed.

Try the steps above in safe mode.

If it doesn't work, try the solutions below:

If you have an antivirus installed or more than one, I suggest you uninstall it through the Control Panel under the Programs and Features icon or temporarily disable it through the antivirus settings itself.

Note: Many antiviruses have their own removal tool. Visit the Installed Software website for more information. Your system will not be left unprotected because Windows has its own security system that automatically enables it as soon as you restart your computer.

Perform troubleshooting:

1- Go to search, type in troubleshooting and open troubleshooting.
2- Select Show all in the left panel.
3- Open Windows Update and follow further instructions.
4- Restart your computer and try to install the update again.

Hide Windows update

1- Open the Control Panel and click the Windows Update icon.
2- After Windows updates or you check for updates, click link ... update (s) is available.
3- Right-click on a listed Windows Update that you want to hide, then click Hide Update.
4- If prompted by UAC, then click Yes or enter the administrator password.
5- You will now notice that the Windows Update eyepiece is grayed out. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to hide another Windows Update. When finished, click / tap OK.

I await news.

Hello, I have resolved my issues finally after a few month of frustration and research) with this ( not sure what I have posted around microsoft support forum recently on this issue)
    * I have tried deleting update folder in %winwdows% directory (as experts suggested) - didn't work
    * I have boot in safe mode - didn't work
    * I have edited and limit my boot options via MSCONFIG - didn't work* I have tried troubleshooting and undone security patches via system recovery - didn't work

    This worked:

    1. If you have for example like a laptop with external monitor (2nd monitor) to extend your desktop productivity, make sure that your internal screen is PRIMARY SCREEN (VIERY IMPORTANT)
    2. Unplug external monitor (from Laptop - recommend for time being)
    3. Unplug everything that is USB/THUNDERBOLT connected devices, including USB HUB / Docking itself, just use Keyboard and Mouse only (if not an option)
    4. repeat the UPDATE scenario again, rebooting several times may be needed (DO NOT CONNECT any USB DOCK or USB DEVICES)
    5. eventually UPDATE will succeed (less than 30min effort depending on your system performance)
    6. plug in everything that you have in USB/THUNDERBOLT

My conclusion of the root cause is microsoft update is confused with all the externally connected USB/THUNDERBOLT Devices, including external monitor (as primary monitor). it for some reason can not update from this scenario and rolls back update after failing, an d causing it repeat itself with users confusion (I have waited as long as 8hrs for it to finish update never did).

so my final resolution of this problem was the steps above.

both my premium laptops have identical issue windows 10 pro / Thunderbolt 3,
how ever, the dell brand, this is company asset, i no longer can default external monitor as primary monitor since update (i think its cause by the update) 75% of the time it will boot up with my external monitor being blank. (this is why I suggest do not set external monitor as PRIMARY SCREEN)

upgrade to windows 11 is not with in my employers scope of policy nor something I want to risk myself into trying at this time.

Doesn't work for me. Even in safe mode. This shouldn't even be for the user to fix. The same update keeps popping up and keeps failing every time I try to install the update.

I have been following this for months now.

One successful update happened in November, but since then Windows tries, sometimes multiple times a day, to do the updates. I have no problems whatsoever with Windows -- all aspects function, the computer (built, not bought) is fast, and all apps and suites behave properly. But the update suggestions and despite me trying every one except a complete reinstall (which I won't do because I would have too many licenses, settings, and layouts to reset) have not worked at all.

The logs produced by each attempted update are massive and I simply can't read them to discover where something might be causing the constant message, "We couldn’t complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don’t turn off your computer".

It would be really helpful if an actual Microsoft technical team would provide an opportunity to submit logs to determine the source of this problem.
