What now ?

Dont tell me to create a new user or install windows over, because I'm TIRED of doing that EVERYTIME windows decides do break !

Basically, people

If you tried everything and it didn't work, leave as it is for a month (pause/schedule the updates)

The succeeding updates usually get the problem fixed

Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

1-Restart the computer and continue pressing the F8 or Shift + F8 key; the advanced boot screen will open in front of you.

2- Now select "Choose an option" and choose the "Solve problems" option, then go to "Advanced options" and press the number corresponding to Safe mode.

3- After booting the system in safe mode, open the command prompt and run these commands

net stop wuauserv

4- Now you need to go to a mass distribution and delete your content. Go to the next path to find a mass distribution.

C: Windows SoftwareDistribution
Delete all files and subfolders in this folder.

Now restart your computer and the updates could not be completed. Undo changes, do not turn off the computer in Windows 10 will be fixed.

Try the steps above in safe mode.

If it doesn't work, try the solutions below:

If you have an antivirus installed or more than one, I suggest you uninstall it through the Control Panel under the Programs and Features icon or temporarily disable it through the antivirus settings itself.

Note: Many antiviruses have their own removal tool. Visit the Installed Software website for more information. Your system will not be left unprotected because Windows has its own security system that automatically enables it as soon as you restart your computer.

Perform troubleshooting:

1- Go to search, type in troubleshooting and open troubleshooting.
2- Select Show all in the left panel.
3- Open Windows Update and follow further instructions.
4- Restart your computer and try to install the update again.

Hide Windows update

1- Open the Control Panel and click the Windows Update icon.
2- After Windows updates or you check for updates, click link ... update (s) is available.
3- Right-click on a listed Windows Update that you want to hide, then click Hide Update.
4- If prompted by UAC, then click Yes or enter the administrator password.
5- You will now notice that the Windows Update eyepiece is grayed out. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to hide another Windows Update. When finished, click / tap OK.

    I hear ya. Got a new Dell laptop for Christmas I had to restart a few nights ago and of course, Microsoft immediately began filling it full of garbage and it failed. No respect for my property whatsoever. What's it to them if I could choose not to have upates? No skin off their nose. It's like if someone could come walking into your home and take what they want and it's perfectly legal. After the first update the bottom of the screen began twitching just like my old one. Checked the drivers they were fine. Now, after the one they tried to install a few nights ago there's nothing but black after the welcome sign in. I've restarted time and again and I think it's toast. There's nothing I can do with it.

    You're right. It's the cumulative update that is the culprit causing all this disgusting mess. In my case the cumulative version 21H1 for x64. The previous (pre 21H1) versions of cumulative updates also have the same problem so whatever bug existed was allowed to remain in a newer version of Windows.

    Microsoft is simply unwilling to solve this non-mysterious, clearly pin-pointable systemic error for MONTHS. So I've simply decided not to allow that bit of the update to ever go ahead and be installed at all (hide / untick it, it's optional update anyway) and let the disgracefully incompetent Microsoft goons sort out their own inadequacy themselves.

    I can't even get into safe mode. I've been through the procedure to boot into safe mode then it goes to the login screen but instead of wanting my PIN it wants my password, so I put in my Microsoft account password and it just says incorrect password when my password that I'm entering is 100% correct. 100% correct. Completely. I'm giving up with this unable to install updates s**t now. I'm done with it.
