Windows 10 extremely slow after upgrade to version 21H1

First, can you please check what are the services and processes running in your computer in the task manager.

-Click Start, type Task Manager and open it

-Click Processes Tab

Hi Carlo, Thanks for the response. As requested, attached is a screenshot but you will note that usage is very low. Even if all the tasks are terminated so that there are no apps running, Windows 10 is still very slow. Programs and web browsers take ages to open and most of time web pages simply do not respond.

Would you suggest that I download a fresh Windows 10 ISO and re-install all over again? Or is there another solution?

I appreciate your time getting back to this thread, first, try to perform cleanboot.

1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
4. Click on services tab
5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services
6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
9. Click OK, Apply and close the configuration utility
10. Restart your pc and observe the performance.

If the issue persists, perform Repair Upgrade, this will re-install the Windows without affecting your files and apps, it will repair and replace any corrupted system files.

Step 1: Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

Step 2: Run MediaCreationTool.exe.

Step 3: Choose "Upgrade this PC now".

Step 4: Select "Keep personal files and apps".

Step 5: Let it install

Hi Carlo : I have done a cleanboot as well as the Repair Upgrade as advised by you but to no avail. The system is just as slow as before. Programs take ages to launch and browsers (be it Edge, Firefox, Opera, Brave or Vivaldi) not only take a long time for pages to open but most of the time it says 'Not Responding'.

This reply took over 45 minutes on the Vivaldi browser before submission of the post succeeded . Clearly something is not quite right with the operating system.

It appears unlikely the problem could be due a virus as I have run Malwarebytes, Windows Defender and SuperAntiSpyware and no threats were detected. My computer is absolutely clean.

In the circumstances, I am considering going back to the previous version of the operating system but is there anything else I can try first?

I have noticed that after I got installed KB5003637 (which is presented as a 21H1 fix) I have the same issue. Computer is not only slow, but it is not a CPU usage issue. More like a lock or blockage of some event queue.

I have seen...

Complete block after adding new tab in edge or chrome.

Icons very slow to load on facebook.com and scrolling down also halts again and again.

maps.google.com freeze on zoom-out using touch pad.

Writing this message actually without any halts at all.
