I have a Dell Precision Workstation M4800 This Workstation has an internal CD/DVD RW Drive as follow: H.L Data Storage Super Multi DVD Writer Model: GS40N (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GS40N) Until fairly recently I have been able to Create a System Repair Disc by using this drive and a blank disc. Now when I try to create the disc I get the following note: "The System Repair Disc could not be created - Windows did not find a CD/DVD Burner" So can you please tell me where the CD/DVD Burners gone?

Can you change the "IsmapiDataBurnSupported" value to 1 : Double-click "IsmapiDataBurnSupported" and change the Value date to 1 > OK Create a System Restore Point beforehand and you may have have to restart the computer afterwards.

It looks as if I have only one "IsmapiDataBurnSupported" value, and that is "0x00000000 (0)". See below:

Because a third party program (Roxio) does not recognize the drive as having burning capabilities the "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" does not appear to be part of the problem. Can you go to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives If you expand "Drives" click on any "Volume" sub-key that exists. For each "Drive" in the adjacent right window is a value "IsImapiDataBurnSupported" For each "IsImapiDataBurnSupported' value what is the "Data" ?

The only software changes that I recall making are Windows Updates on a weekly basis. This issue has been going on for months, and it's annoying to have an internal CD/DVD Drive that does not work, therefore recently I decided to contact the Microsoft Community to see if they could resolve the problem for me. Up till now I have had to attach a Dell DW316 External USB DVDRW Drive, insert a DVD and erase the disc using Roxio. Then I can create a System Repair Disc because the drive is recognised. I note that the "Create a System Repair Disc" option is part of "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)", could that be part of the problem? I am going to be away from home for a few days now, but will take the M4800 with me, however the speed at which I respond to any of your queries will depend on Internet availability. Regards organcd

The issue could be with the SATA controller. Do you recall any software change that would correspond with the appearance of the issue?
