Missing CD/DVD Burner

  1. I have a Dell Precision Workstation M4800
  2. This Workstation has an internal CD/DVD RW Drive as follow:    H.L Data Storage Super Multi DVD Writer Model: GS40N (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GS40N)
  3. Until fairly recently I have been able to Create a System Repair Disc by using this drive and a blank disc.
  4. Now when I try to create the disc I get the following note:    "The System Repair Disc could not be created - Windows did not find a CD/DVD Burner"
  5. So can you please tell me where the CD/DVD Burners gone?

    What I am going to suggest at this point is a "repair" installation of Windows 10 which should force the re-detection of hardware and solve any configuration issue:

    As a general precaution back up any critical files beforehand.

    Hi auggy,

    DVD/CD-ROM drive (HL-DT-ST DVDROM GS40N) was uninstalled via Device Manager, and the computer restarted.

    The Device Manager then showed that the drive had been reinstalled.

    Tried to create a Repair Disc, but Windows again could not find a CD/DVD burner.

    I can't find a Recording tab in "This PC", see below:

    Can you uninstall the burner via the Device Manager and restart the computer and check again.

    Also, check the burner in "This PC" for a recording tab.

    Hi auggy,

    I created A Restore Point.

    Downloaded and Installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (ver 17.9.1.1009) - SetupRST.exe.

    Downloaded and Installed Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management application (optional).

    Did not download f6flpy-X64.zip.

    Did not download Licenses.zip.

    Tried to create a Repair Disc, but again Windows could not find a burner. See below:

    OK, it appears the issue is system wide.

    Can you try updating the Intel SATA driver to the latest version:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29647/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Driver-Installation-Software-with-Intel-Optane-Memory-8th-and-9th-Gen-Platforms-

    As a general precaution I recommend to create a system restore point prior to updating storage drivers.
