Thank you very much for all the effort you put in to try and solve my problem, it has been very much appreciated.

My delay in replying is because I needed to check some items.

The first of these was to contact the manufacturer of the DVD+/-RW Slot Drive i.e., Hitachi-LG, to see what replacement drives they could recommend. They advised there was only slot drive available, a LG GS40N Slimline DVD Writer Optical Drive. I purchased one of these from CCL Computers, installed it, but Windows 10 still did not recognise it.

The next thing I did was to log into my Dell Account to see what they had to say about Optical Drives not being recognised by Microsoft Windows.

The first thing they advised was to “Verify if the drive is recognised in BIOS/System Setup”, if not, to contact Dell Technical Support. In fact, my “BIOS/System Setup” showed all SATA Drive boxes checked but the drive was not recognised.

Next I obtained a list of Drivers & Downloads for my computer. These could be either downloaded and installed automatically, or manually. As I use the Support Assist on a weekly basis, I assumed they had been installed automatically.

However, as there were 4 urgent drivers listed (see below), I decided to download and install these manually, believing I would be informed if they had already been installed. No confirmation was forthcoming, so they installed successfully.

After carrying out the manual installs, the computer was shut down and restarted.

Still “BIOS/System Setup” showed all SATA Drive boxes checked but the drive was still not recognised.

I inserted a DVD and selected open with the “File Manager” option.

In the DVD RW Drive (D :) “Properties", the “Erase” option was still not listed.

However, now:

I can can “Erase” a DVD using the Roxio software, because it recognises the DVD RW Drive (D :).

Also, I can now create a “System Repair Disc”, because the DVD RW Drive (D :) is recognised by Windows 10.

How this as come about I' am not sure, probably a mixture of new DVD+/-RW Slot Drive and BIOS driver update.

The recording tab won't show in the Device Manager but that the drive is listed as "DVD Drive" (not DVD RW Drive) in "This PC" may indicate it does not have, as it stands, recording capabilities.
