Windows update - KB5000802 BSOD

Several of our clients have experienced BSOD every time they try to print to any Kyocera printer after update installed. IF WE MERELY REMOVE THE PROBLEM UPDATE AND GET THE PRINTERS WORKING AGAIN, THE UPDATE FORCE-INSTALLS AGAIN NEXT DAY AND WITH IT THE BSOD RETURNS.

Accordingly, this is the approach we are now taking:

1. Apply update-disabling policy hack detailed below
2. Uninstall KB5000802, then reboot
3. If still unable to print, then remove and reinstall affected printer(s)

DISABLE W10 UPDATES PERMANENTLY

Open Start.
Search for gpedit.msc and click the top result to launch the Local Group Policy Editor.
Navigate to the following path:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.

Check the Disabled option to turn off the policy and disable automatic updates permanently.

Click the Apply button.
Click the OK button.

After you complete the steps, Windows 10 will stop downloading updates automatically on the device. However, the ability to check for updates manually will continue to be available in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. While on the page, you need to click the Check for updates button to download and install the most recent patches.

If you want to re-enable automatic updates on the device, you can use the same instructions outlined above, but on step No. 5, make sure to select the Not Configured option.

We have around 50 computers and mostly Kyocera printers. The KB5000802 update installed on about a quarter of the compuyers so far, caused BSOD crashes not only when printing (even the  printing of a test page caused the same effect) but also occasionally when launching two in-house Firebird based apps. Uninstalling the update was only a temporary solution since it insisted on reinstalling immediately. I had to postpone all updates for the maximum amount of time available, 35 days, I think.

No. One can delay or "Pause" them for up to 2 weeks, but not refuse or block them.

Brian, since this update went to everybody, have you gotten any Blue Screen reports that might help?

If you have that many of those printers, it would seem by now, Kyocera would have put out some type of situational announcement regarding this. I don't know what an APC_Index_Mismatch is but maybe you do.. I have seen comments about clearing out Printer Queues

Removing the update fixes the issue. Before removal, if a user tries to print they get a BSOD. I have had to pause updates via Intune/Endpoint Manager for the whole company but we have to remove the update manually. I can't get PS to remove the update silently as the /quiet switch makes the uninstall error. Our helpdesk is having to touch every machine remotely.
