WINDRIVE Partition

Hello, after I bought a new laptop Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G I've installed Windows 10. On the installation menu partition manager told me that Windows will created additional partitions I clicked Ok and MSR 16 MB and WINDRIVER 8 GB partition were created. I wanted to test something and I've reinstalled Windows 10 on same laptop and I deleted all previous partitions. After that I clicked Ok when Windows asked me about additional partition that will be created and I was surprise that WINDRIVER wasn't there. Why this happened and how can I get it back that WINDRIVER partition on the list?

yes, you will get a recovery partition - you will not get the windriver partition.

    Hi RuroniKenshin,

    I understand your frustration at the confusion however, Windows installation does not create an 8GB WINDRIVE partition (or a 4.1GB WINDRIVER partition, as mentioned earlier in this thread)

    Acer created the WINDRIVER partition that, apparently, contains device drivers for windows.

    a quick look in the Acer forums shows a number of threads either asking if it is safe to delete or concerned because they accidentally deleted it

    drivers can still be obtained from the Acer support pages.

    in short, the Partition is not required to run windows.

    Unless you really want to keep the UEFI shell partition, i would delete all partitions so that the whole disk is unallocated space and let the windows installation create the partitions necessary to boot and run windows. 

    once windows is installed, if there are any issues with drivers, look on the acer support site for drivers for your device.

    Just another note regarding this Acer model and being able to boot from USB drive. You have to temporarily set a password for BIOS in order to disable Secure Boot for Boot Choice menu (F8 or F12), been awhile. Otherwise it will be greyed out.

    Completely shut down your computer.

    Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.

    Use the right arrow key to select Security.

    Use the down arrow key to highlight Set Supervisor Password and press Enter.

    Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.

    Use the right arrow key to select Boot.

    Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter.

    With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter.

    Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

    NOTE:: We suggest removing the supervisor password immediately after enabling Secure Boot. If you choose not to remove your supervisor password, make sure you write it down for future use.

    I have the exact same laptop, there is a 100MB System Reserved Partition, Main OS Partition, a 500MB recovery partition (Windows) end of drive and adjacent to that a 1GB manufacturer oem recovery partition.

    There was never a windriver partition that came with this Aspire. What you are stating at 8GB is 8 times the size of the default oem recovery partition.

    WinDriver Folder — Acer Community

    Indeed, Factory Install comes up with WINDRIVER partition. Rest assured no action is required from your end, you can download the drivers from Acer if needed(though WU these days even offers firmware updates as well).
