Hello,

Seems like everyone is facing same issue with this update right now. Try installing ‘KB5001649‘ manually using Update Catalog, see if that works:

If issue still persists, waiting for a while and then installing it may help, as Sumit suggested.

There were 6 barcodes on those taxes plus other images that looked fine before I ever took these updates. I haven't mailed them in yet to forestall my arrest & imprisonment, & it looks like I've got until May 17 now. Glad you got past that error message. Yep, when it won't come in well from Windows Update, taking it manually is one of the first things to try. In fact, I did have to do that at least once, myself. Good going. And, right, you have to match the one you take to the info at "right-click START, System". You want to match Windows Version, Edition, & Architecture (x64/64-bit or x86/32-bit). Good to know you get an error message otherwise, instead of the wrong one actually installing.

Edit: It worked for me through Windows Update on March 21, but to illustrate use of the Catalog...

(1) At "right-click START, System" mine shows: EditionWin 10 Home, Version20H2, & Architecture of 64-bit.

(2) At "START, Settings, Windows Update, Learn more" which is the Windows 10 update history site, I would click the update that failed (KB5001649)...

(3) Inside that URL, it says to take the SSU (KB4598481) first. Click the link to its description, then click the link to the Microsoft Update Catalog within that one to see...

Mine is near the bottom. It doesn't fully distinguish Edition but Version & Architecture are important.

(3) Then, back in the KB5001649 URL, click its own link to the Microsoft Update Catalog & see...

Again, for me, it is near bottom. You download it, run it, then may delete the raw download.

    Mine is currently 19042.867. KB5001567 still shows up for me at Windows Update...

    I've been able to print tax forms that I guess have "graphical content" just fine. Well, one of them has barcodes anyhow. But I'm tempted to try it based on what Peter_W_Barker said on page one...

    That would be fine by me. I'd know for sure it doesn't apply.

    I have followed your step to the point where I need to click on the link to download. After i click there is no prompt to save or run. I guess the link must be broken or too many people is accessing it.

    I had the same thing when using Chrome.  I had to use Microsoft Edge to download with the link.

    @Ryan_N,

    You can download those files with either browser. The procedure with Chrome could be slightly different. (Right click and copy link to a new tab).

    Just in case you are curious about the difference on the same file downloaded with MS Edge Chromium, versus Google Chrome here are the 2 files for kb5001469  .msu downloaded with the 2 different browsers from the same MS Catalog link.

    1) Chrome,  File number (1) has one Alternate Data Stream (ADS), Zone.Identfier added to the file.

    2) MS Edge, File number (2) has two Alternate Data Streams (ADS), SmartScreen plus the Zone.Identifier added to the file.

    You can see this using the cmd "dir /r " from cmd prompt: 

    If you want to know more about the subject search for ADS Zone.Identifier and ADS SmartScreen and/or Mark of the Web.

    Both ADS are used for security purposes on files downloaded from the internet....
