Please Help Me!!!! Windows 10 Update KB5001649 Failed to Install!!!

A lot of the so-called helpful advice isn't helpful at all. Let me give you the recipe for Windows 10:

1. first, delete the failed update from you system: go to settings, windows update, then to "view updates history" and then select "uninstall updates". if the failed update is there, first note EXACTLY what update it is, write down the KB number and any other descriptive information regarding that KB - write it all down exactly as you see it. Once you have written it all down, then delete the KB. After the deletion, reboot.
2. make sure your system is not damaged. Updates fail when the system files have damage. Fix the damage by running in cmd administrator mode the command: "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth", hopefully it completes with zero fixes, or is able to fix your system. Right after that, run "SFC /scannow" 3 times and hopefully it reports NO errors, and then reboot. if you got this far, you are ready to reinstall the failed update. if your system is corrupt it is likely you will have to reinstall windows. Before that, run disk diagnostics because if your HDD or SSD is fried, then you need to replace your disk. Once a disk starts to go, it's like cancer, faults grow and then the disk dies. if you are clear of all this, you ready to re-install the KB you noted above.
3. Do NOT use Windows Update, it will likely fail, do it manually: first, go to the microsoft windows 10 update history site and look up all the KB updates. Make sure what what you wrote down and what is on that site match and make note of the particular version of the KB. Then go to the microsoft update catalogue and type in the exact KB number you wrote down. Once there, select the proper version of the KB for your computer software and download it. Once downloaded, run it. you have just manually updated your computer and by-passed Windows Update which was stuck in perpetual purgatory (and you with it). Once the manual update completes, reboot (usually reboots itself). If you do a windows update check, you see that everything is OK and no longer an issue because the installed update is visible to Windows Update as "updated".

this works because i did it. I can't understand why the microsoft weenies (tech advisors??? not really..., weenies, yes) can't write this down as simple process. oh no, do a complete re-install instead and whine how helpful they were... yeah, right.

There is another problem after applying kb5001649, W.U. will fail to update to build 19043.899 when enrolling on Beta. It gets error 0x80073701, see below, not sure if it is related or not to kb5001649 or even the previous update from 19042.867 to 19042.868, but this does not work anymore.

All went well with no hiccups so far. And like PCR just stated, I sure hope they get it fixed for version 21H1 before it is released to the General Public.

It was again about 40 minutes through Windows Update. Since I took the other thinking it were this, I thought I'd better take this as well. But I swear there were graphics on my tax forms that printed fine after ...867 & before ...868 & ...870 -- & I just hope it will again. OK, I expect it will be fine.

And I hope any problem with 21H1 will iron out before it's released.
