[Windows update installing the new Edge browser] Update KB4559309 Makes Computer Unbearably Slow

Last night I updated my windows 10 pro using KB:4559309. Since then my computer performance has absolutely tanked. my startup time is probably triple, loading any window has a few second delay.

I attempted to uninstall the update however windows tells me that it is required and cannot be removed.

This update has essentially rendered my brand new computer useless.

Please help!

Hey there, everyone

I have spoken to Missy Quarry, from the Edge team, and they are investigating this problem. However, they really need more details submitted though the Feedback Hub on Windows 10.

To submit feedback, please go to start > Feedback Hub.

You will need to click onto report a problem. Then enter your feedback/problem you are having with Microsoft Edge. On the categories you will need to make sure you have the following drop down options selected in the image underneath:

The more detail you can submit, the better it will be for the Edge team to find out what is causing this issue. So the detail box that has the test comment, should detail everything you are experiencing.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

yes. So far I have not received the latest news regarding the KB4559309 update problem on the news portal. For example: MSpoweruser, Windows Latest, Ghacks.net, Bleepingcomputer and others. I installed Microsoft Edge manually from Microsoft website. and it seems a few seconds delay after Boot Splash. then Windows Spotlight appears. If the restart time gets worse, when I log in after entering my PIN, it takes 3:55 (3 minutes 55 seconds) before entering the Windows 10 Desktop.

By the way, it seems that the promotion about the new Microsoft Edge Browser has been reduced and even removed in the Search box (Near Start Button).

@DrJones214 - I think you might be misinterpreting what is going on here. This original post topic was to ask users who had got the new Edge Browser via the suspect update KB4559309, to report thier issues via the Feedback Hub.

Those who updated to the new Edge via other mechanisms (i.e. the "nag" screen link on the Old browser, or via the Microsoft Store) have usually been fine getting the new Chrome Based Edge that way.

It seems that some other unintended and unexpected activity by some "extra" parts of the Windows Update KB4559309 used to deploy the Chrome Based Edge are beleived to be causing many of the issues (but not ALL of the issues) being described in these threads.

Hopefully Microsoft will OFFICIALLY tell us more when they know the exact causes and how to remedy them.

As a general note to users, on here, please refrain from recommending users try to uninstall update KB4559309. This update is well documented here and in other forums, that it is NOT an eligible one for uninstalling.  Instead, the BEST way to remove EDGE is documented here:

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/how-to-uninstall-microsoft-edge-forced-installed-via-windows-update/

However, the update ITSELF may have altered users drivers in some cases. If this is the case, it is often best to go to each manufacturers site for your drivers, (Realtek for sound and Ethernet network adaptor, and your device manufacturer for your PC/Laptop for system and motherboard chipset drivers, as others have reported here).

Of course if you DO happen to have a recent SYSTEM IMAGE backup of your whole system, then you might find it simpler to restore back to that (if taken PRIOR to that suspect update).

If you are not familiar with your devices, and device types using Device Manager, a good utility you can use is the "speccy" utility by Piriform. Get it here: https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/download

NOTE: The TECHSPOT site reported this: "Microsoft removes driver updates via Windows 10 Device Manager", via part of update KB4568831 so that has now made it harder for less technical users to re-load their drivers. Hence my recommendation to go directly to your device manufacturers sites. Do NOT be tempted to you those often advertised "driver scanners", as many of them do more harm than good, and may contain "pups" (Potentially Unwanted Programs, with ads and trackers etc.).

If any of you need to re-install if your system is too messed up, and you need to get a nice report of all your extra programs and utiities you added over time:  before you do the reset or re-install, I recommend the Belarc Adviser audit tool (free for home/personal use), and you can print off your report to check through as you go through putting it all back as you want it. It will show you your licence keys for many products as well, that is handy. Many IT pros use this too. See here: https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor
