For Office 2007 File Validation IssueGo to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Find OFV.CAB and extract it.

You'll have OFV.msi

Install it and hit Retry on Windows Update.

    Hi Nigel,

I just did a full clean install, and am having the same issue with "Error encountered: (0x80240023)".

    Your reference to:

"then click Windows Update on the tab that will appear on the right side."

is confusing because I don't see the Windows update Tab on the right.

Perusing the window, I did find the Windows update troubleshooter, ran it, and it did not find any error.

After rebooting, the problem sill persists.

    Question:

    1.  Do I really need this update?

    2.  Is there a solution for this error?

Thanks, and have a great day!

I encountered the same problem with the latest Windows 10 version 2004 release. The way I "got around it" was to run the Microsoft "Windows Update Show/Hide utility": wushowhide.

It allows you to hide the problem update. Not a fix, but prevents the error from showing and allows updates to complete without error.
