How to stop being logged out of everything automatically when I turn off my laptop

I would not go on this forum into blaming, but this one is a fat book of "How To Spoil Up Our Userbase - For Dummies".

And as I see, half a year has passed, and MS did nothing regarding the issue, even more, as I read the first comments of the MS guy, it is a FEATURE.

I'm getting logged out of everything even when I don't shut down my computer. It happens after a few hours of 'sleeping' or whatever. Some sites do remember my password, but I don't stay logged in. Some others, however, make me go through the 'which square has a stoplight' protocol and then make me get a new password anyway. I appreciate it if Microsoft is blocking some horrible worm that will melt my computer, but I hope they get this fixed soon.

I was going through this same issue. After many days of trying different things – Uninstalling and reinstalling Office, Google Chrome, clearing credentials and cached passwords, and the rest of advice in this thread, this is what seemed to solve half of the problem:

 (Please take note that I’m not tech-savvy, I’m just a regular Windows user)

I have linked my PC’s account to one of my Hotmail accounts – instead of using the local account as I did before, and verified the account as requested. Then I also activated the PIN for Hello Windows. It seems that now this new Windows 20H2 version is asking for exactly this – very persistently, if you omit it or overlook it then one will be logged off every number of minutes. Once I did this PIN thing then the system stopped logging me out of One Drive, Outlook 365 and Office.

Then for my additional Microsoft email accounts – which I normally gather into Outlook 365, I gave each of them the same PIN for Hello Windows when prompted, and voilá! My Hotmail and live accounts are not logging off anymore.

For the Google accounts and Google Chrome browser, I have not found a solution. What I did was to provisionally change to Edge browser and have set my Gmail accounts to resend everything to one of my Microsoft email accounts I have signed on in my Outlook 365. The Edge browser is not logging me off websites anymore.

I know this is just a partial solution, but at least I’m not going crazy with all the continuous prompts the system was giving before, when asking to re-enter passwords for everything, and can now use my time to get work done! It feels like Microsoft is now forcing this Windows Hello functionality.

This has started to happen to me as well when my laptop did an automatic upgrade a couple of weeks ago.  It's infuriating! Google asks to save the password each time, but never pops up again.  I hope Microsoft fixes this.

There was a patch due to address this but unsure whether installed yet.

Also read that cleaning cached passwords has resolved it for some.

Can you try to Clear Cached Passwords

The first thing you need to do in order to fix your issue would be to clear your cached passwords located in the Control Panel. Here’s how to do it:

Go to the Start Menu and open up the Control Panel.

Set the View By, located under the address bar on the right-hand side, to Large Icons.

Navigate to User Accounts

On the left-hand side, click on ‘Manage your credentials’

Select the credentials for Lync, Outlook, and Microsoft in both the Windows Credentials and Generic Credentials.

Click on Details and then select Remove from Vault.

Exit the Control Panel and then restart your system.

OK. This is Windows 10.  I do not see a "Control Panel".  There IS a settings but on that there is no "View By".  If I ignore that and just click on "Accounts" it also leads me nowhere consistent with the next steps. Help!
