How to stop being logged out of everything automatically when I turn off my laptop

The issue you are describing is related to Windows 10 Version 2004.

Microsoft added Data Protection API (DPAPI) in Windows 10 Version 2004 to protect users’ confidential data. This feature currently only supports Windows 10 Version 2004, so earlier versions will not encounter similar problems unless users are planning to upgrade to a new version in the near future.

The DPAPI function is designed to protect users’ private keys, stored passwords, and other credentials generated in Windows 10 and other confidential information from being stolen by malware.

Google is still investigating and Microsoft has not confirmed the problem at all, so the specific reasons have to wait for the follow-up investigation results.

During the beta version, users gave feedback to Microsoft and Google, but Google engineers could not reproduce the problem, so Google decided not to investigate the problem.

Although I am aware this does not solve the problem it will be addressed in an upcoming Windows patch, so please keep your system updated with the latest updates.

Thanks so much for your quick reply.  Although it doesn't resolve my issues (which are driving me insane!) it certainly answers my question.  Is there any way that I can prevent Outlook from logging me out every time I shut down?  I'm entering my password every time I switch on but now I'm not receiving mail/can't send mail etc.  Please can you help?

There was a patch due to address this but unsure whether installed yet.

Also read that cleaning cached passwords has resolved it for some.

Can you try to Clear Cached Passwords

The first thing you need to do in order to fix your issue would be to clear your cached passwords located in the Control Panel. Here’s how to do it:

Go to the Start Menu and open up the Control Panel.

Set the View By, located under the address bar on the right-hand side, to Large Icons.

Navigate to User Accounts

On the left-hand side, click on ‘Manage your credentials’

Select the credentials for Lync, Outlook, and Microsoft in both the Windows Credentials and Generic Credentials.

Click on Details and then select Remove from Vault.

Exit the Control Panel and then restart your system.

First time it will prompt you again, but then close applications down and restart to see if it corrects it.

Hi Nigel, I followed your instructions (thank you) but there was nothing at all in the credentials for Outlook.  In fact, the only thing there related to logging in to my personal emails.

For the majority of my issues it sounds like I will have to wait for another update to be released but I'm confused as to what Google has to do with it.   I don't use Google, I use Microsoft Edge and my personal email isn't gmail.  Also, I'm not sure why Google would have such an impact on my Microsoft applications?  As I said, I'm not very technical, but the majority of the issues I am having are associated with Microsoft Windows, particularly OneDrive and Outlook.  I use Outlook for my work emails and I have never been asked to input my password but now, since the windows update, it asks me every time and there is then a lengthy delay before Outlook starts operating properly (same with OneDrive but without the delay).  On occasion, I am asked numerous times to input my Outlook password.  Can you think of anything I can do to prevent this from happening or will I have to wait for a patch to be released?  In the meantime, I am simply keeping my laptop switched on at all times - which is okay for now whilst I'm still working at home but it's not going to work in the long run.
