Your Phone calls unusable due to too much echo

I have setup Your Phone on my PC and Phone Companion on my phone (Nokia 7.1) - both devices have latest software and are fully patched.

While I can make and receive phone calls via the Your Phone app on the PC (and they sound fine at my end) the other parties all complain of excessive echo so that I need to conduct the call on the phone.

My mic and speaker settings are the same as I use for Skype, Zoom, Hangouts, etc. - how do I trouble shoot this? 

Is it possibly caused by the mic / speakers on the phone remaining active during the call?

I deavticivated AGC in the Mic settings and it worked for me

    What is it exactly that fixed your problem? UNchecking the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" option?

    Update.... Under Settings > System > Sound, at the bottom I clicked on "More sound settings" which took me to the legacy sound settings. I have two microphones, one built into my laptop and one in a webcam. Oddly enough, under "Recording" in the legacy sound settings menu, the web cam microphone was labeled as "Default Communications Device" and the laptop microphone was labeled as "Default Device". I selected the laptop microphone and set it also as the Default Communications Device, so that now the web cam microphone just says "Ready" as in the screenshot below.

    Now, the volume mixer setting for the Your Phone app does not default to blank, but rather defaults to ... (wait for it) the web cam microphone. Strange, but the bigger point is that when disconnecting and reconnecting the phone, the default input device setting appears to "stick" and I do not have echo.

    Note, I am on Windows 11, but since this involves a legacy Windows setting, this may also help people on Windows 10 or earlier.
