Your Phone calls unusable due to too much echo

I have setup Your Phone on my PC and Phone Companion on my phone (Nokia 7.1) - both devices have latest software and are fully patched.

While I can make and receive phone calls via the Your Phone app on the PC (and they sound fine at my end) the other parties all complain of excessive echo so that I need to conduct the call on the phone.

My mic and speaker settings are the same as I use for Skype, Zoom, Hangouts, etc. - how do I trouble shoot this?

Is it possibly caused by the mic / speakers on the phone remaining active during the call?

Thanks

Pino

I have same issue and been struggling with it for 9 months probably. I have Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 and Samsung S10.

The one thing that I experience that no one has mentioned, but SandroOliveir3 comes closest too, is it is intermittent. I can still use it but I have to start every phone conversation with "Do you have an echo?". Sometimes people say its fine and others say horrible. They hear their own voice booming back. I wonder if software gets stuck in bad place and SandroOllveira3's fix resets it and I'm experiencing it intermittently.

I test by calling my landline and oddly have never re-created the problem calling it. I have done it a lot and seems the odds of not hitting the intermittent is low. It is really hard to imagine it depends on who I call. I have not tried repeat ably calling someone who has experienced it.

I don't think it is a "Microsoft Not muting the mic" thing. The modern conference apps don't seem to do this either. Today the DSP is so good that the echo cancellation adaptive filtering is really good and no need to mute mic. Again, mine works fine some of the time and others not.

When I first tested I had big echo coming back to landline but I was in same room as computer. This was just my voice going into the computer and coming back to phone. If I take my landline to other room it is fine. Muting the microphone does the same.

One early theory, that I have not been able to prove or disprove yet since intermittent, was the Galaxy was actually not disabling its microphone when connected to Bluetooth. So remote persons voice comes out PC speakers and went back to them via the Galaxy's microphone. Seems unlikely. But if true would exactly create this problem. But I think some of you have the problem even with headphones? If I could reproduce the problem on my landline I would put the Galaxy in another room or under pillows... These things are so sensitive might take putting it plastic bag and put in bucket of water :)

Has anyone tried moving their phone away from PC ?

Yes, real bummer. When it works its wonderful. Just sitting back and talking just like on zoom. Sound quality is so much better than using phone..

I have a Samsung S10 phone connected to a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop via bluetooth and the Your Phone app in Windows 10 version 1909. When I make or receive calls everything sounds fine on my end but the other party complains of a loud echo of everything they say, however no echo when I talk. I would rather not connect by a cord. I move around the house quite a bit and want to have my hands free, so when I'm not at the computer I use a Bose headset connected via bluetooth to the same phone and there is no echo problem using it. If other people are having the same problem with other phones and computers it seems like a Windows 10 issue.

I also have a Samsung S10+ as well using an HP Z Book running Windows 10. I have had the same results. The receiving end hears an echo.

I have not seen any quick resolution. It sure seems like a bug Microsoft should have caught early on. Would lobe to see if anyone has resolved tis.

I have the same issue using Windows 10 and a Samsung Note 20+ recently bought a Bluetooth adapter to use my phone to call people using my Windows computer with my USB headset or USB microphone. Got some input devices but all USB. Tried to solve it with solutions that people posted here, unfortunately there was no solution for my setup.

I did a bit of testing with this issue. Normally my phone will mute my mic when anything is coming from the speakers (this is standard phone functionality to avoid echoes). The Your Phone app isn't doing that. So my mic picks up what I'm hearing as I'm hearing it, and sends it back to the other person on the line.

I think this is an old problem, pertaining to the basic functionality of phones. And it has a solution but Msft just didn't implement it (yet), or it's not working for me.

No. Many of us are getting the echo while using a headset. I even tested it (just now) with output on a headset and input on a separate webcam. There is something in the coding that is including the caller's sound with the mic sound. Also, this is the ONLY application in Windows that has this echo. Not Discord, not Skype, not Zoom, not Facebook. Microsoft needs to fix this.

    This was also my thought
