You're welcome!  Anytime someone gets around microsoft's blatant attempt to purposely torpedo legacy software is my pleasure.

I'm posting again to say that the time has come for me to dump Windows 10 completely.  As this thread is related to Windows 10 and its updates, this follow up comment is on subject. The update from last week, which kept putting 'reminders' up on my screen every two hours, nearly totally bricked my pc.  I didn't even install the updates.  As per usual, after I kept postponing them, they installed themselves.

-It made my office programs take 60-120 seconds to open or save, including during auto-save.  This basically made them worthless.

-It also made my chrome browser stop working 100%.  As in, chrome simply would not load.

-It made my photoshop lock the system up for ten seconds each time I closed it.

-And Win10 since day one has had an unsolvable issue in which I cannot maximize open programs from the taskbar unless I continuously hit the ctrl button ALL DAY LONG.

When I attempted to go back in time using system restore to un f**k microsoft's work, it didn't work.  Every time the pc rebooted, it kept running the same updates function over and over again. I ended up having to boot into safe mode and go back a few weeks in time before the update auto-loaded and auto-armed itself for installation at power-off in order for it to be successful, and thank god I have my system restore disc use settings to use an absurd amount of my hard drive so I have a lot of old system restore points to go back to.  (This is a good time to remind everyone that Windows 10 is the first version to have system restore SHUT OFF BY DEFAULT when the OS is installed.)

The only reason I installed this auto updating mess was because it was apparently the only OS that would allow a 'bypass' of the software workarounds for spectre and meltdown built into Win8, thus making Win 10 theoretically run faster.  Well, it doesn't run faster. It takes 60 seconds to open a file, won't run chrome at all, and won't open a program in my task bar without a keyboard input.

Basically, Win10 is a giant pile of steaming garbage.  I'm going back to windows 8, where hopefully I can keep it functional past the 2023 end date.

Yes, my laptop shut down in the middle of my morning yesterday and updated itself.  I haven't noticed any problems yet, but I'm not really that technical.  Good luck with your journey back in time--hope that works better for you!
