Windows Live Mail cannot display message after Windows 10 update

My laptop recently updated windows 10 (I think #1909) on it's own.  After the update, my Windows Live Mail quit working.  It downloads the message headers/titles, so I know it's connecting to the gmail server, but when I try to open the message, I get the error, "Message Can't be Displayed.  Windows live mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or disk space and try again."  I have plenty of memory and disk space.  Thanks for any suggestions!  (And yes, I know I should go to a newer email client, but I have too much wrapped up in Windows Live and just want to fix it!)  Rick

    Thank you so much for posting an English translation of the original German solution. This really saved the day!

    I was forced onto 2004 a couple of days ago, and nothing worked. I rolled back to 1909 and all new mails still would not show. I got this “Message cannot be displayed” message as well (in the wrong language, but this is another beef I have with MS software that I cannot solve) and I couldn’t send any mail.

    I like to have all my emails shown in a single U/I and MS’s new Mail app still cannot do this. Also, it doesn’t do search correctly - different results depending on ?what?? - , whereas WLM shows instant results when I search through 1’000’s of mails.

    Microsoft, Google, and all the big tech want us to use cloud based storage and apps, so they can keep their fat fingers in our wallets.

    Once you have the three new Dwords created, just right click on them, click on "Modify" and then you can change the value.  By the way, my values did not all go to zeros, but WLM is working fine.

    ok I got to this part

    RecreateFolderIndex = 1

    do I put the "= 1" in the description? I did it both ways and it still didn't work.  I put the 1 in Hexadecimal is that correct?
