Windows Live Mail cannot display message after Windows 10 update

Uhhh, did you not read this whole thread?

My laptop recently updated windows 10 (I think #1909) on it's own.  After the update, my Windows Live Mail quit working.  It downloads the message headers/titles, so I know it's connecting to the gmail server, but when I try to open the message, I get the error, "Message Can't be Displayed.  Windows live mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or disk space and try again."  I have plenty of memory and disk space.  Thanks for any suggestions!  (And yes, I know I should go to a newer email client, but I have too much wrapped up in Windows Live and just want to fix it!)  Rick

I still lean heavily on WLM, and when it stops working (I'm fully aware it's "no longer supported") it gives me some stress. All the alternatives I've tried so far seem so much worse. I don't understand MS's decision to not support it; it's around  25-50% of the active time I spend on the platform. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

The latest Windows update broke it completely; WLM wouldn't display any messages at all, even though my phones did.

I. Simply. Don't. Understand. This. (As a software engineer, it seems like a deliberate act is the only way this could happen.)
