Issue

I downloaded the Feature Update 2004 and tried to installed it 3 times. Each time all went good without error, then it ask for restart, so I click the "Restart and Update", then it reboot (1st time) but before accessing the authentication page it reboot again (2nd time) then again before accessing the authentication page it reboot again (3rd time) this time it's really longer (as if the update was finally applying), it goes to teh authentication page. I log in, then I check and the I'm still at update 1909.

In the Windows update history I can see an error code: 0xc1900101. Nowhere else I can see an error.

The two first times I tried to update and it fails when I went in Windows Update and clicked "Check for updates" I saw the 2004 update available and was able to download and install it again. But since last try it now tells me I'm up to date yet I'm still at update 1909 and 2004 failed to apply.

PS: I have Core Protection disabled.

PS2: Windows Update troubleshooter says all is fine.

If you experience this issue on ASRock motherboard make sure that you've updated to the latest available BIOS.

Then Enter the BIOS (F2) and Turn off (Compatibility Support Module) 

After you changed the BIOS setting run Windows10Upgrade9252.exe available for download on microsoft website url: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445

Problem solved.

    Problem solved!

    The update isn't even available anymore.

    It must have caused too much damage to people's computers.

    That's Ok. I've switched to Mac by now anyway.

    Same Problem here with ASUS N56VZ Notebook (2012)...

    After many attempts to solve the 0xc1900101 error, I figured out there were too many entries in the BCD (Boot Configuration Data) orphaned and the redirection-entries linked to deleted partitions ..

    Solution is to delete the orphaned entries:

    To show the BCD entries:

    1) Start command prompt: hit start, type in "cmd" and by pressing shift+ctrl press enter to start cmd-prompt with admin-rights

    1. Type "bcdedit /enum all" in the opened command-prompt window and press enter. Now you get a list with all entries of the BCD Data, one named "Windows Boot Manager" and two "Windows Boot Loader" entries.

    On my N56VZ Notebook there were 5 entries named "Windows Boot Loader". I had to delete 3 of them to get the 2020h2 update running.

    To find out the wrong "Windows Boot Loader"-entries:

    1) find the string after "resumeobject" in the list of the "Windows Boot Manager". (i.e. {f769421f-c665-11ea-9d4b-a58aceca50cd} )
    2) Search this string in the "Windows Boot Loader" entries under "resumeobject". The entry beginning with that number and the other with the string "{current}" are the right ones.

    3) Delete the other (orphaned) entries of "Windows Boot Loader" (orphaned entries show under "device" some "?"-Symbols ) with the tool "Visual BCD", simply search for it.

    After that procedere, Windows Update was able to run the full update to Win 10 2004 :)
