I had tried clearing all browser caches and it didn’t do anything for _my_ problem.  I suspect my problem was a close relative of the one in the post that follows.  I _had_ inadvertently set two email accounts up.  The poster who follows had two different phone numbers.  If this causes a problem for Microsoft account or software, it would be a good idea to set a popup message informing the user of a discrepancy in information provided or to say an account already exists.  Do you want to change/delete?

    I think Microsoft should automatically delete accounts that have been inactive for a specified period of time. this likely would have prevented my problem altogether.

    The logic behind my problem seems to be that when the Microsoft system encounters conflicting data, it will reject both because computer systems are unable to determine which is true and which is not true.

    Microsoft should notify users about possible conflicting data
