Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 appears to have broken Windows Live Mail

Hi

Have just installed Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 but Windows Live Mail appears to no longer work. The app opens and emails appear but unable to open them - a variety of "Could not write this message to disk" and "Check your computer for low memory"

Is anyone else who still uses Windows Live Mail getting this as well and is there a workaround?

I appreciate Microsoft no longer supports Windows Live Mail but it has functionality that the alternative Mail app doesn't have such as send/receive on all mail accounts with one button and a better layout (imo)

I think i have written clearly the exact error message and not just "I get an error message". I think i've seen that phrase as a stock answer in another post and you may have accidentally applied it to mine.

OK. Here are the further details of the "Could not write this message to disk"

This happens on both microsoft and non-microsoft accounts

Configuration:

   Account: Googlemail ([redacted])

   Server: imap.googlemail.com

   Username: [redacted]

   Protocol: IMAP

   Port: 993

   Secure(SSL): 1

   Code: 800c013e

Configuration:

   Account: Hotmail.co (redacted)

   Server: imap-mail.outlook.com

   Username: [redacted]@hotmail.co.uk

   Protocol: IMAP

   Port: 993

   Secure(SSL): 1

   Code: 800c013e

This appears once only on selecting the email and then in the preview pane i get the message below, (for info i am not low on memory or disk space. This is the first app i open with 24GB RAM.)

Message could not be displayed

Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

Windows Live Mail Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331)

Windows Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.329)

Finally, i am able to read emails that were received before the Feature Update 2004, I am only unable to read emails received after Feature Update 2004, hence the title of my post.

I await further instruction, thank you.

WLMUser2020's solution has worked perfectly for me. I can now send and receive emails and view them and view all new emails received. I can now right click view and edit properties of my email accounts (one is a Hotmail account) which would not work after the Windows 10 2004 update.

All seems to be working that was working previously for me in Windows 10 Ver 1909. 

Hope this works for you and interested others, as it did for me.

    Many thanks for your feedback ClitheroeKid - its great to hear from some one who knows what they are talking about. Can I just double check a few points with you and then I hope I'll fully understand the situation.

    I understand what you're saying about Microsoft stopping the sync process so we would no longer expect to see any syncing between the WLM calendar and the calendar I see when I use my browser to login to my hotmail account.

    What I'm still a little bit unclear about is the "working online and globe" that I see in the bottom right hand corner of the WLM window. I've always been a bit puzzled about the function of this "icon". I don't think I fully understand what this does, and I don't think I ever have if I'm honest - it seems to conflict with the obvious meaning of the word online.

    If I look at my own WLM system right now I have 'signed out' in the Options/Connection window but I see both "working online" and "working offline" appearing in the bottom right hand corner of the WLM window. If I left click on "working online" it changes to "working offline" - I can left click (or right click) on it till the cows come home but it will not change back again. However if I go back to looking at my Mail window and then back to the Calendar window after a relatively short while (perhaps several minutes) it will turn back to "working online" by itself. Whether it says working online or offline there is no change in the calendar entries (they are all blank as this is a new installation - but I do have entries in my browser based view of my hotmail calendar). I don't understand what is going n here!

    You say "Make sure you are really looking at the one stored in your main local account in WLM, and not (a) the one stored online, nor (b) one stored in some other e-mail account in WLM." however I thought what you said earlier meant that I would not be able to see any online calendar using WLM since the sync service had been discontinued - am I misunderstanding what you are saying here?

    You also say "You should see your calendar entries if you sign-in, using the button at the right-hand end of the ribbon. And, for the future, it may be better to use the online calendar, which will be available to you from any computer with an Internet connection, and also in a smart phone." I don't understand how I could see my "online" calendar entries if I sign in (by clicking in the Options/Connection window?) since the sync process is no longer running?

    I'm sorry if I'm being a bit dense and not understanding all you have said but if you could fill me in on where I'm going wrong it would be a great help. Thanks.

    Thank you so much.  This solution worked perfectly for me.  The DWORD entries were already there, so I just changed the "(0)" to "(1)".

    The description in the bottom-right corner of the program window refers to whether you are connected to the e-mail server or not.

    It reflects whether the WLM program thinks it can reach the mail server -- so it's really a means of telling you the status of your internet connection.

    It's only a status bar. You CANNOT use it to control your internet connection, it can only report the connection's status.

    All the Calendars still exist!

    You can store entries in any calendar you choose; but the calendars no longer sync with one another. Any entries added to the online calendar will notget added to your local calendar.

    Make sure you are really looking at the one stored in your main local account in WLM, and not (a) the one stored online, nor (b) one stored in some other e-mail account in WLM.

    As stated previously, if you click the 'work offline' button in the 'ribbon' you should be seeing the calendar stored locally, and if you click that button again - now it is labelled 'work online' - you should be seeing the calendar stored online.

    They do not sync any more.

    You use the button labelled 'work online/offline' to choose which calendar you see - the online one, or the local one for the email account you have selected in WLM.
