why my windows is not ready for update

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page. 

This is the message shown by the system.

I have "HP OMEN 15 Series" laptop. I keep my drivers Up to date but why I am not reciving this update.

    I received 2 answers, one from Dell tech and the other from Microsoft tech.  Dell said no that they have to be installed in order and Microsoft said yes that 2004 could be bypassed if your current operating system is 1909.  Of course, neither tech could install the update so go figure.  After all the aggravation of trying to install the update and will sit with the 1909 ver until they reach out to me.  Too frustrating working with those people.  By the way, mine is doing exactly what yours is doing.

    Edit: Even though Windows update still gave me the message below, I ran the Windows 10 Update Assistant tool and this time it worked! BitDefender Antivirus was still installed and running so in my case the update had nothing to do with pausing or uninstalling the antivirus software. Wrong advice by Microsoft again.

    Put me on this list too. I'm still getting the "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page." It's now December 1st with no fix or explanation in sight. I contacted support, they remoted in and tried to do a few things. When they got to remotely reflashing the Bios I stopped them. They sent follow-up emails and when I would respond, no response. When I would manually try to install the update it would fail on 2nd reboot and then roll back to 1909.

    If this isn't bad enough, I have two identical Asus G750JW laptops. One installed to 2004 update without a problem. The second one keeps failing. Is there a way to jump over 2004 initial release and install 2009?

    Its no use  since it just keeps showing one thing, error and some fancy numbers and letters.

    Well keep checking by going to the search bar and type  checkyou should see windows updates then once you are there view optional updates and it will be listed there download and install, if not maybe they haven't got to HP yet.

    That's great John but now it's been over 5 months. Any reason why we can't update still?

    Did  you try check windows updates then additional updates then below that there is download and install now  like I found --> example: Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2
