2020-06-11 - After Windows Update, printer not working

My Windows 10 updated overnight and now my Brother printer is no longer printing.  Windows can "see" the printer, It knows when the printer is ideal. If I turn the printer off, Windows shows it as offline, when I turn it back on, it sees it again.

When I print something (tried PDF file, an image in Photoshop, and some simple text from notepad), it says it is printing. It goes to the Printer Que... everything seems to be working fine.... But the printer never prints.

I went to the Brother website, downloaded the latest drivers and firmware they have, installed all of that... Same issue.

When I run the Windows printer troubleshooter, it says no issue found.

I tried everything I can think of what I can find online.  The printer is being seen by Windows, just not getting the print job sent to it.

All of this started right after the latest Windows 10 Update.

And yes, I have rebooted my system multiple times, Unplugged everything and cold booted all hardware.

Need some help OR a fix from Microsoft if this is an issue in the latest update that was just sent out.

Thanks to everyone for the help and now the solution.

The problem is in the update KB4560960. Once I removed this and rebooted my printer started working again.

    1. Press Win+I to open the Settings app.
    1. Choose Update and Security.
    1. Click the Update History link.
    1. Click the Uninstall Updates link. ...
    1. Choose the update you want to undo. ...
    1. Click the Uninstall button that appears on the toolbar.

In step 5 above, I had to search a bit and then found the update in the Microsoft area. For me it had the install date of 2020-06-11, but the real key is the "KB4560960". Once I removed that, rebooted, my printer was back up and running.

    I was surprised to run into the same bug 5 months after the first bug, but I mostly use a mac.  My mac has not problem talking to my networked printer, but the windows 10 computer would have weird behavour that looked like a complex page causing the Canon printer to reset.  My wife's windows computer would have the same problem talking to my old HP laser printer through USB, so neither printer brand nor network was the issue.

    I removed all the canon printers from the printer manager, restarted the computer, installed the drivers from the CANON WEBSITE, I did not touch any microsoft store etc.. or MS supplied drivers.  restarted the computer again.

    This time, the printer works nice and fast.  I haven't tested that on the HP yet.

    So, like the old days for windows, remove all, restart, install, restart.

    I shouldn't have been lazy and let the OS do everything.  When there is a problem, use the tried and true old methods.

    FYI, the fixes described here did not work, until I applied a patch provided by the printer manufacturer.

    In my case, the printer was a Canon TR-4500.

    I searched the Canon site and although there was nothing specific about this issue, I downloaded all available software for my printer.  (I noticed for the first time that the update appeared to have removed all the Canon software.)

    After installing the software and drivers (2 separate downloads), the printer claimed it was set up and even printed a test page, but printing from a file over WiFi STILL didn't work. 

    Then I applied the patch, which was a simple batch file. And that fixed it.

    OK, so I'm late to the party.  STILL having printer problems.   Have been using workaround for several months, dont print a lot, but that's changing and now its too frustrating.  Delay my fault.  No KB4560960  listing in my update history.  Listing for KB4560959 on that date 6/13/2020. 

    Cannot uninstall that update.  No active uninstall?  

    Turned print spooler back on.  No fix.  

    Sending docs to iphone then to printer:  that works fine so I know printers are fine.    

    What to do?  Cannot access either printer on WiFi network from Windows 10 since that update.

    I do not have KB4560960 update  but a lot of updates in 2021
