Access is denied after typing "ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak" This is pissing me off. I don't know what kind of problem Windows Update is giving me, just an empty page with something went wrong and nothing else. Nothing I do is getting it to work properly and wondering is it gonna be worth it downloading Win 11 upgrade.
Windows 10 Update (Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later)
* Mod note on 16 October 2021.
A third-party tool to block all updates to Windows 10 is mentioned several times in this thread. Links to this tool have been removed because Microsoft policy is that one cannot post here any method of permanently stopping/blocking updates to Windows.
Everytime i enter windows update i cant see nothing in Windows Update tab, only "Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later" .
3 days have went by of me trying to fix this, but nothing is working...
The troubleshoot shows nothing wrong...
Tried to reset the pc but i got an error (something went wrong)...
When i try to scan the disk it always gives me an error
Did sfc /scandisk in safe mode there was no problem

2021-08-03T03:32:19+00:00 - Type 'services' in type here to search box besides start menu. Run Services as Administrator.
- Double click on software protection and set it as automatic.
- Now double click windows update and set it as automatic. This step will not work if step 2 is ignored.
- stopupdates10 Guard should be disabled.
Check again the windows update page. It will be blank for some time as it starts checking updates and it will show the update status.

2021-07-19T18:02:02+00:00 Hey BeverlyMorris,
I will help you in getting this issue resolve. It might be challenging for you to run the command in a one go. Here I am providing you an alternate way to get this issue resolved.
First create a text file and rename it WU.txt
Then paste the below text in that file:
net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptsvc
net stop msiserver
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start cryptsvc
net start msiserver
Rename this file and save it as a WindowsUpdate.bat (Save as type All Files)
Now right click on WindowsUpdate.bat file and run it as an administrator.
Restart your device and try updating the Windows.
If getting any error then respond.
Thank You
