Windows 10 Update (Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later)

* Mod note on 16 October 2021.

A third-party tool to block all updates to Windows 10 is mentioned several times in this thread. Links to this tool have been removed because Microsoft policy is that one cannot post here any method of permanently stopping/blocking updates to Windows.

Everytime i enter windows update i cant see nothing in Windows Update tab, only "Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later" .

3 days have went by of me trying to fix this, but nothing is working...

The troubleshoot shows nothing wrong...

Tried to reset the pc but i got an error (something went wrong)...

When i try to scan the disk it always gives me an error

Did sfc /scandisk in safe mode there was no problem

    click on the link and d/l the small program.....it will force windows to restart the updating service again and it will disable the service that is stopping it

    even a reinstall will NOT resolve this problem.... i used this software after looking around for some help.  MS will take it down soon, the original link was left by another poster, but I just managed to get in quick and get to the site, it's a really good tool, it'll allow for manual disable of the windows medic service which is the one that is actually causing the problem, and its that service that is preventing you from enabling windowsupdate in the services !!

    after a WEEK looking around and reading MS wholly unhelpful replies I found this link on here, and it's the ONLY thing that actually did what it said on the box, I was skeptical, always am, but it was the only thing proven to work

    btw   this service is a service that is put on by MS themselves.....they are EITHER staying quiet as they know....OR the MS technicians do NOT know their own software

    really poor on the part of MS

    be quick before they remove it..... ok theyve put a block on it, i can see on this post..... go to greatis dot com forward slash stopupdates10 forward slash

    https://greatis.com/stopupdates10/

    be quick before they take it down

    theres a "medic" service that's running along with "windows10update service, 1 is blocking the other, this software resolves it.....there is NO adware etc, its the only thing that resolved the problem....i'm an advanced user and it took me a looooong time to get this resolved......a week is too long !!

    Just Run CMD as Administrator. This might fix.
