System Repair Disc Not Bootable in Win10

I am running Win 10 Pro 64bit version 1909. I used Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and Restore (Windows 7) to create a system repair disc. That worked fine, no error messages, until I went to use it. I tried to boot my pc from the CD drive where the repair disc was inserted but got an error message, non system disc or words to that effect. I had done this previously with Win7 without any problem. Any thoughts as to why the same process is not working in Win10?

    I used Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and Restore (Windows 7) pathway to create a system repair disc in Win10. Is that what you refer to as a recovery disk? I know how to determine the version of the operating system I'm using on the computer but how do you determine the version on the system repair disk? I don't know what you mean by Legacy and UEFI. This much I do know. My computer was purchased with Win7 installed on it. When support for Win7 expired in January 2020, I did a clean install on the same computer using a Win10 version 1607 ISO file that I downloaded from Microsoft. With Windows Updates applied since then, I am now at version 1909 of Win10.

    The version of the Recovery disk and the version of the OS you are trying to use for the image are important.  You would need to be running the same version of each for the image to be successful.

    There may be a possibility you could use a different version of the recovery media or install media, but you can't reimage an older version over a newer OS version unless you clean the drive first.

    So, how did you make the Recovery DVD.  Is it a Win 10 created version?  Can we assume this is a Legacy install so UEFI is not used?

    I would probably download the latest Win 10 build and burn that image to the DVD, if that is not what you are doing.  If you need an earlier version of the install media, that might be a little harder to find..

    Edit:  If you used a DVD and it made more than one DVD, you may have to insert the last DVD to start the process..

    Hello, the problem with Windows 7 backup is that it isn't reliable & therefore is being removed as the Windows installation media can be used as a repair drive to troubleshoot Windows by booting the PC with this.

    Windows backup & maybe in the future file history are being deprecated & will eventually be removed, what you’re experiencing may be related to that.

    Microsoft recommend using third party software:

    “System Image Backup (SIB) Solution

    We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.”

    I recommend moving to third party imaging software now before it is removed permanently if you prefer backing up your PC rather than using File history.

    I use Macrium which is very reliable & I now wouldn’t be without it..

    It has it's own boot drive so you can recover from drive failure & install the image to a new drive.

    Thank you for your time and effort to resolve my problem. If there is anyone else out there who is in a similar predicament, I'd like to hear from you. I am running Win10 version 1909 and about to upgrade to 2004. I'll give it another shot after the operating system has been upgraded and see what kind of result I get.
