Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

I read your note a couple of times.  What audio/microphone driver is now active?

I didn't do all what you said, I simply forced the 2004 install.  All the audio/microphone stuff works as far as I can tell (they're still Conexant).  I checked out my stuff on Zoom, and it's happy.  As I reported earlier, the only problem I had was when resizing the iTunes window.  All other windows resize fine.  I'm not too concerned about that.  I already posted an item on the Apple-iTunes-Windows community forum.

Update: I don't regularly use iTunes.  Perhaps this problem existed before the 2004 update but after the last iTunes update.  I really can't say for sure, but I think it's the 2004 update.  I checked all my graphics drivers and they are at the latest version.

I didnt force install windows 10 2004. All i did is that i replaced Conexant driver with Microsoft provided generic driver.

After doing that i had to wait 2 days to get offered with the Update by windows update. Then I updated to 2004. Now I'm using 2004 without the conexant drivers. I don't have any issue so far. And I find Microsoft audio driver far too feature rich than that god-forbidden hideous conexant driver.

I wanted to tell all of you that I had the same problem with my Asus GL552VX, but I managed to solve it.

The blocker is mainly the Conexant audio driver, as there is no update yet in most of the laptots... but for Lenovo laptops.

What I did is download the Lenovo driver from here, Instead of installing it using the setup wizard, I selected the option "Extract only".

After extracting the package, I went to the device manager, selected Conexant SmartAudio HD, clicked on Properties and in the driver tab, I clicked in the update driver button.

In that wizard, you need to select to search the driver in your disk and later go to "choose from a list of drivers in my computer"...

Choose have disk (or use disk, I don't remember the exact english text), and go to the directory where you extracted the driver previously (within that directory you will need to navigate to WIN\AUDIO\20202908.1013083\x64), make sure to untick the show compatible hardware option.

This driver might tell you that is not signed or validated for your device, you can ignore that warning and go forward.

This driver is updated with versions not affected by the bug that MS states in his page for 2004 update, so, if the driver works fine (in my case worked like a charm), this will unlock your computer for 2004 update.

If you have any issue with the audio, like it not working or something else, you can always return to the previous driver version through the device manager.

What you can do later if windows update still does not offer the update is go to this page and download the MS update assistant, which will override Windows update.

This procedure worked perfectly for me and now I have Windows 10 2004 installed for a week now.

I have just installed the Lenovo driver, it took a while but worked, i didnt put the 2004 version on yet as i am testing this. It seems the sounds enhancements are gone and now the menu looks different a bit. For instance nothing under "enhancements" just "disable all sound effects" and when you click that audio is notably quieter, cannot tell if it's like the earlier option "night sound". if echo sound is on all the time, i don't like it.

other than that there is a new menu DOLBY AUDIO turned on. it seems okay. testing it.

Edit: there i found a new menu dolby audio and all enhancements are there, looks really cool actually. will keep it.

hi guys, ok here's something bizarre that happened..

So as mentioned earlier, i installed the Lenovo's driver (see above) since i read on a previous post that it would unlock the magic 2004 update. Well it did work fine, i used the Windows Installer thingie (manual), it downloaded, installed no errors, everything perfect.

Then once it booted on 2004......here's the kicker.... the regular Conexant audio driver went back (not the Lenovo one) and everything perfectly works, this is so odd. I have the exact same menus as before (not the fancy Dolby Atmos one) so i am quite puzzled but nevertheless it works :-) For me this is fixed then. Been using the comp around 2 hours now and it's perfect.

I have a ASUS VivoBook S15 S510UQ

One thing that didn't change with 2004 is the following: when i click power button to have the PC go to sleep, then you get the lock screen flashing up for a few moments... then sleeps OK. I was so much hoping this would be fixed but nothing, peace.

I know we have a few Asus users here, do you guys have the same going on?

After blocking Conexant drivers and getting offered 2004 update automatically, I unblocked the audio device to allow audio drivers to be updated. Windows downloaded the Conexant drivers and installed them. No issues. However I didn't want to take any risks. So I removed the Conexant drivers, and blocked them again from installing. 

Now I am just using the Microsoft provided HighDefinition Audio Drivers which came with 2004 update. Also I don't want any next update to be incompatible because of the useless Conexant one. I hear that the October update might get released soon 🙂

I did exactly the same.

After updating to 2004 windows installed the Conexant dricers anyway. Then I removed the drivers but the next day windows again updated conexant drivers. 

Then again I removed the driver (for the 3rd time after updating to 2004) and paused windows update to prevent installing the driver through windows update.

The the most bizzare thing happened. Despite windows update being paused the friggin conexant driver got updated anyway.

I mean how can it be possibe? Why would microsoft flagged this driver as incompatible only to relentlessly push it to customers afterward?

Then again I removed the drivers, but this time placed a registry blocker to block any further attempt to install this driver again. Now have to see if windows again tries to install and succeeds or not. 

I'm not taking any chance for again being blockd from future upgrade. I am more than happy with the microsoft drivers.

Also I didn't faced any BSOD issue so far.
