Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

AS the blocking methods did not work on my laptop (I have Windows 1909 PRO edition) I decided to go ahead anyway and update to 2004 using the online update method (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10). I removed the blocking methods of GP & Registry before I started.

Before I started I disabled & uninstalled the Conexant driver then began the update. However, as I was logged into the internet the driver was automatically reinstalled shortly after the update commenced.

Surprisingly, I suppose, everything worked fine and I now have Windows 2004. The Conexant driver is installed so what are these warnings from Microsoft all about?

Also, my touchpad has not really worked for about 6 months but after the update it is fine.

This method worked fine for my HP Probook with Windows Pro and I even did not uninstall the Connexxant ISST Audio Driver. Only disabling it did the job. After installing Windows with the above mentioned update method, the driver was automatically enabled and every thing worked fine with the Windows 2004

Are you using 64 bit Win 10 Pro?  I have an HP Envy laptop that is right at 5 years old.

Thanks for this post, which I have found tremendously helpful. I have discovered a different method of installing the generic Microsoft driver which other people may find useful. The steps are:

1 Disconnect from the internet.

2 Uninstall the Conexant driver using the process you have described.

3 Reboot, when prompted. At this point the Microsoft driver (which is apparently already present) will be installed. Since you are disconnected from the internet, the Conexant driver cannot be downloaded.

4 Apply the audio driver update block using the process you have described.

5 Reconnect to the internet.

At this point you are good to go until a feature update. As you know, when a feature update takes place, the audio driver block will prevent both the Microsoft driver and the Conexant driver from being installed. My expectation was that all I would have to do was disconnect from the internet, remove the driver block, let the MS driver install and then reapply the block. But this isn’t quite what happened. When I dropped the block, The Conexant driver was installed – it must have been downloaded with the update. But that’s no big deal. If you want to continue using the MS driver you can just repeat the steps above.

Of course, many people may prefer to use the Conexant drivers since they don’t appear to cause a problem post-update despite what Microsoft says. But I would rather use the MS driver. At least if the next feature update is blocked (and it’s not far off) I will know it’s not the Conexant driver.
