Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

    Problem solved!!

    Everything working like a charm. In my opinion, the only reason why GNU/Linux is not for everyone is just because it does not come pre-installed in every system.

    Godo luck - -it worked for me but it took a cople of days before the blocked message disappeared on windows update - not sure what the polling interval is for this.

    Today I have uninstalled the Conexant Drivers and disabled the driver installation by doing registry edits. So Windows update fails to reinstall the Conexant drivers for this Audio device.

    Now I am on the Microsoft driver v 10.0.18362.356

    Let's see if Microsoft enables the 2004 update for me.

    I became frustrated with this issue since I needed access to WSL 2 for my work so I just flashed the ISO to a USB and then installed 2004. I've been on it for about a week without any issues, audio or otherwise.

    Here are a few instructions if you'd like to do the same (clean install Windows without any of your old files or programs), but be forewarned that you may encounter the issues specified.

    1. Download the Windows ISO from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
    2. See if you can flash the USB directly using the media creation tool, if it doesn't show up in the list just download the ISO and use a tool like Rufus to flash the USB
    3. Once the USB is flashed, hold Shift and click on the Restart option in the start menu.
    4. Click use a device and select your USB from the menu
    5. Follow the instructions on the USB to do a custom install

    I am also very disappointed.

    My primary machine is an ASUS VivoBook which I got in June 2018. and so frustrating that it has this issue. On Microsoft website there are two issues and it seems I am affected by Issue 1, 

    Issue 1. 

    The affected driver will be named Conexant ISST Audio or Conexant HDAudio Driver under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager and have file name uci64a96.dll through uci64a231.dll and a file version lower than 7.231.3.0.

    I found this file, so I guess for me this is the blocking issue.

    UCI64A231.dll7.231.2.0 Conexant Unified x64 Device CoInstaller  

    Issue 2.

    The affected driver will be named Conexant HDAudio Driver under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager and have versions 8.65.47.53, 8.65.56.51, or 8.66.0.0 through 8.66.89.00 for chdrt64.sys or chdrt32.sys.

    I found these details, which are not amongst the conflicting drivers as reported by Microsoft.

    Device Manager >> Conexant SmartAudio HD 8.66.95.69

    System32/drivers >> Conexant HDAudio Driver CHDRT64.sys 8.66.95.0, CHDRT64V64.sys 8.66.95.0

    What is surprising is I have another HP laptop from 2011, at that does not have any such driver issues and got updated to Windows 10 2004 release already.

    This is so shameful for Microsoft and/or Conexant/Synaptics that they are unable to resolve a code issue in these many months.
