Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

    Hi bernard,

    Did you try to get your yoga laptop to work with the 2020 update?  Just wondering if you hit any problems.

    I was hoping to replicate the solution found by a fellow Lenovo 310 owner, I didn't fancy trying trying all the suggestions on 20 odd pages of forum. I'm not interested in dev builds, I need a stable system for work.

    I've completed two 2002 updates on older (non conextant) systems. Both have performance improvements vs the previous version - happy with that. On one of them, the system was ****. Visual c++ 2013, and 2015 were corrupted. Lots of mucking about, finally installed these again. Now stable.

    Damian's message below/above(?) about flipping the driver to a generic MS version seems the simplest so I will start there.

    Thanks for the confirmation! I have one more device stuck at 1909 with the conexant block (lenovo Yoga2) so I guess I can go ahead with that one too.

    This message to testify the simplest workaround did it for me :)

    I run an Asus S14 410UN with Win 10 64 bits Home and was stuck with version 1909.

    The workaround was to change the driver of the Conexant audio device with the Microsoft High Definition Audio. To do this, simply update the driver by looking into a list of compatible devices instead of doing an automatic update. It should stay this way as the Microsoft generic driver is of a closer date to today than any available Conexant driver.

    Then, I launched the Windows 10 2020 H2 update using the Windows Update download https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    It all went well, and after several reboots, I logged in and found the audio driver again being Conexant SmartAudio HD, the one previously used before this workaround.

    Seems like the issue really is DURING the update not after it's done.

    I have aToshiba which was stuck with conexant driver in 1909 build. I joined the windows insider program and that went ahead and installed the h2 build. I still have the same conexant sound driver dated 2017 but device manager has a heading "audio inputs and outputs"  with Microsoft drivers for microphone array and speakers dated 06/12/2019 drivers version 10.0.19041.1 listed for both.
