Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

    Aggiornamento a W10 20H2 riuscito con driver Conexant SmartAudio HD indicato non compatibile

    Recentemente è stato tolto il blocco all'installazione dell'aggiornamento alla versione 20H2, dalla versione 1909, anche se il problema di incompatibilità noto di alcuni driver audio Conexant non è stato ancora ufficialmente risolto. Ciononstante si è avviato sul mio laptop Asus con Windows Update l'aggiornamento automatico delle funzionalità a Windows 10, versione 20H2. Esso però in fase di preinstallazione si ferma al 61%, nonostante i diversi tentativi fatti, generando anche il codice di errore generico 0xc19001e1. Ciò è dovuto alla incompatibilità nota dei driver Conexant SmartAudio HD installati sul mio laptop. Seguendo il suggerimento di un utente su un forum di discussione che aveva lo stesso mio problema e lo ha risolto, ho proceduto come segue: andare in Pannello di controllo-Gestione dispositivi-Controller Audio, video e giochi-Conexant SmartAudio HD-Aggiorna driver-Cerca i driver nel computer-Scegli da un elenco di driver disponibili nel computer-Selezionare il Dispositivo High Definition Audio (driver generico) al posto del driver Conexant e proseguire con l'ìnstallazione, ignorando il messaggio di attenzione driver non specifico. Riavvio del sistema e proseguimento con l'istallazione automatica di WU dell'aggiornamento alla versione 20H2, che questa volta è andata a buon fine. Al termine dell'installazione (la procedura è stata lenta), non c'è stato alcun problema di audio o crasch del Sistema e i driver Conexant, reinstallati automaticamente, hanno funzionato perfettamente. Nel mio caso ho risolto, anche perchè l'aggiornamento avviato e incompleto alla versione 20H2, bloccava ogni altro aggiornamento di WU, anche quelli di sicurezza antivirus. Finalmente dopo quasi un anno di attesa ho potuto avere la versione aggiornata di W10 sul mio portatile Asus K550J di appena tre anni.

    Thanks for your reply. It is good to know that I am not alone in my quest for an updated Synaptics audio driver.

    Since I manage a number of affected laptops - not just my own - I will wait until an officially tested fix is available. I have to weigh the downside of missing out on the 20H2 version for now against the risk of blue screens due to audio driver incompatibility. Even just one person losing data is too much. From my experience with DOS and Windows, I have learned to be very cautious about video and audio drivers especially when PC's are used in a business setting.

    No - but as per my original post way back at the beginning of this thread with this exact model I blocked the driver update by policy. installed a generic driver, completed the update when it was offered after a couple of dates. removed the block and let windows install the Conexant driver and it worked fine. laptop has been running without issues since.

    Has anyone tried to disable audio in BIOS on the Yoga Laptop (ThinkPad - Type 20CD) and use a supported small inexpensive USB audio interface from Behringer or Focusrite Scarlett to provide audio?  That way, the laptop can be updated. 

    Incidentally, I use the Scarlett on other laptops with condenser microphones and analog audio mixers when needed for video conferencing and the result is great and PC overhead minimal.

    I have a HP envy x360 notebook with the Conexant audio ISST drivers.  Since 1909 updates expires in about a month, I decided to try what I read previously.  I still get the block on windows update. I used device manager to disable the Conexant audio drivers. I did not delete the drivers. I did not reboot since that would have reinstalled the audio drivers. Went to the windows web site used the update for 2020 H2.  It installed without any problems. (It took a very long time for the installation to complete). Following installation I checked device manager, the Conexant audio drivers had been reinstalled and everything worked fine. No audio problems or other problems. I used windows update to install the 2021 updates to win 10 2020 H2. 

    PS: I made a complete backup of my 1909 installation before starting just in case major problems should occur. Didn't need it.

    I exactly followed your recommendations and after a long update-process I got the latest Windows version 2020 H2 on my ASUS Zenbook. It worked great and the Conexant drivers are working fine.

    PS.: Of course I have also made a complete backup (without needing it).
