File History: Element Not Found Error on Windows 10 May 2004

Using Windows 10 May 2004 edition with a brand new install of File History on two different machines now, I have managed to run into the following issue.

Selecting Clean up versions, then "Clean up":

I get the following dialog:

Again, this is on two different machines, with a clean install.

Note that I am using a simple folder with a 4KB file within it, although I first saw this on a fully-configured install with about 1.5TB worth of data within it.  This led me to diagnosing the issue and ultimately trying it on these two separate machines with a clean install.

Is this a known issue for 2004?

    Indeed, that is actually how I found this issue, by attempting to delete all but the latest.  I am interested in hearing your results. 👍

    Are both machines running 2004?

    I’ll check on my PC - I usually select delete all but the most recent though as I run Macrium as well.

    Hi Time Lady thank you for your reply.  I forgot to mention that I had already done "the usual" as you denote above.  :)  Since this occurs on two machines, one of them being a brand new install of FileHistory, never attempted before, this appears to go beyond disk/OS install health.

    As for the choices, no matter which one I select this error occurs.  However, I have had the expected message occur a few times ("We didn't find any versions of your files that were that old"), but on the 2nd (and subsequent attempts), the error is what is returned instead.

    Can you confirm with your own 2004 install that this does not occur for you?

    Are there versions of files older than 12 months?

    Does the error appear if you choose any date less than 12 months - say 3 months?

    Try:

    Right click on start & choose powershell with admin & enter:

    SFC /SCANNOW

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
